Well I've had my system built up for around a month now with no real issues so it being watercooled I decieded to try a little overclock.

Friends have got there core 2 upto 3.5Ghz on air with cheap memory....so I was looking forward to a good overclock.

I went and raised the fsb from 266 to 300 giving 2700Mhz ....saved n restarted no vga so powerd off again no vga.Cleared cmos (it didn't..found out after you have to remove the jumper to clear..rtfm lol).

Reseated all hardware ...not fun on a fullywatercooled setup

Still nothing reseated memory nothing tried 1 stick then 3 post peeps.
Found out memory issue reseated again in black slots no vga but peebs had gone.read manual after "lots" of fafing around I got vga signal.Decided to try a little oc again only to 270mhz same problem...now after an hour and a half of pi**ing around.I don't really want to try again unless theres a known issue with the hardware I have ?????see list below.

Intel E6600 2.4Ghz
Intel BadAxe 2 (original bios)
OCZ 6400 2 x 1Ghz
ATI X1900XT
Creative Xfi
Silverstone 650W quad rail psu
2x 150Gb WD raptors
All watercooled with triple rad inc CPU/Hdd/G.Card

Thanks :o

Aha. A fellow Aquacomputer user - not many of us around on these forums :)

Have you checked your temperatures to make sure everything is ok?

Have you run Orthos on the PC at stock to see if everything is ok?

You're running the original BIOS, generally as BIOSs get updated they become better at overclocking. A few exceptions, but almost always the way.

The board as far as I know (And I don't know much about Intel) is their "enthusiast" board, so it should be possible to lock PCI-E and PCI frequencies - you'll want to check that though.

It does sound like memory limitations though, you'll want to try slacker timings, and possibly a divider (or upping the multiplier rather than the FSB).

I hope that's some kind of help. It's a bit late at night, so not a lot of folks around which is why I'm posting when I don't know any specifics on your board/CPU/memory etc

The badaxe 2 by default has a watchdog enabled which massively hinders overclocking,to disable it you need to access the maintenance menu, this can be accessed by powering off system and moving cmos jumper to pins 1&2,power system on,enter bios and maintenance menu should now be available, from here you can disable the 'watchdog'.

I would boot up @ stock update bios & see if that helps. Also run Orthos @stock to see if there are any problems.

Nice Aqua setup :) tempting me to get the Silverstone.

Thanks for the ideas guys and yes I love the aquacomputer stuff blows all other watercooling out the water (no pun intended lol :p )for finnish and detail.

Right back to the problem

Temps
CPU 30C
Mainboard 28C & 26 C through intels own monitoring program
GPU 36C

Not run orthos ..but have run 3d mark 01/05/06 many times with no issues and completed halflife 2 ep1 all the way through......well a small lie I get a noise from the mainboard when I run 3d apps like a harking sound.

Ive tried locking the PCI-E to a 101.4334 blah blah mhz as it was the lowest option apart from automatic.and also raised the CPU voltage to 1.4..and low and behold it seemed to work 270 all ok 3dmark ran then tried the mighty height s of 280FSB....boom no vga/keyboard response.... :(

Went online updated to the latest bios same results though it seemed to reset a lot better end even came up with a message that id tried a setting that wasn't ok...

WEnt into maintinance mode and found the watchdog thing disabled it.That was what came up the message..watchdog wasn't avalible on original bios...anyway that didn't work either...I did notice something called C1E...that was enabled ?

So I've managed to overclock from 2.4Ghz to 2.43Ghz woot :(

I'd say your RAM might be holding you back - try to underclock it or limit it to the stock frequency to take that out the equation... also make sure that the PCI/IDE/SATA clocks are locked at their default values...

check that the CPU is actually running at its proper vcore too - some of them seem to default to something silly like 1.22volts whereas it should be 1.325... which will take you to 3gig and slightly beyond on a core 2.

You may also want to research the north bridge voltage for that board... some motherboards don't like to overclock on the default NB vcc but will clock up fine when its increased 0.1v.

well ive got the badaxe 1 ( rev 304 ) as follows:

6600
X1900XTX
Geil 2X1gb 6400 ULL
2 x samsung spin points - Raid 0
Seasonic S12 600W psu.

i run that lot at 3.2 default vcore or 3.6 1.5 vcore depending on weather i'm using air or water cooling. the badaxe is a cracking board but it's the kinda board that you have to work at to get the best from, it'll have you tearing your hair out 1 minute & singing it's praises the next once you've gotten a grasp of how it works.

try setting the following as it might help you:

Memory Configuration
SDRAM CONTROL - Manual - USER DEFINED
MEMORY FREQUENCY 533MHz.

then try these to get 3.2. ghz

Default CPU VID - DISABLED
CPU VID - 1.35
ENHANCED POWER SLOPE - ENABLED
Host Burn In Mode Type - POSITIVE
Host Burn In Mode Percentage - 34
FSB Frequency Override - 1067MHz
PCI Burn In Mode - DEFAULT
PCI Express Burn In Mode - DEFAULT
MCH Voltage Override - 1.525V
Front Side Bus Voltage Override - 1.333V

you'll have to build upto the Host Burn In Mode Percentage, don't just jump straight in at 34. but that will give you 3.2Ghz.

Have you tried pushing the memory voltage up. I see you have OCZ sticks. Which ones? most OCZ RAM need 2.1v and some like mine need even more.

Try that

Just before I read these replys I rang a friend who advised on also raising the mem voltage...it was on auto and around 1.8v so i put it to 2.1 and CPU to 1.4 jsut for luck and bingo 280 ok then 310 so I dicided to try 350 lost again ...so a lot of work it seems to do to get it to 3ghz which seems poor still next to just about well everyone...I'll keep trying those ideas and post back ...bed time now as im working 8am to 2am... maybee won't get to try till wed night !

Thanks again guys gettin there is there any good links before I depart showing best voltages settings for this particular board ??
