Got hold of some watercooling goodies as follows

Swiftech MCP655 pump
Alphacool Cape Coolplex Pro 25 Reservoir
Swiftech Apogee GT Waterblock
Swiftech MCR220-QP rad

They are all 2nd hand so i have clean the cpu block and lapped it for a nice clean new finish.

going to get radiator cleaned out with some de-inonised water and vinegar.
Same for reservior.

My questions are as follows:

Do you need/should you have a fan controller for the speed of the fans on the radiator? What fans should i get?

Should i use Feser or just stick to Distilled water and deionized water??

Masterkleer 7/16" Tubing - seems to be flavor of the month - anything else to consider?

Worried a little about the cpu block and having read about mixing metals etc?

Will a dual rad be ok if i decide to water cool my 8800gt at some point in the future? If i do what block should i consider?

  • You don't need a fan controller - it depends what u want from your rig. Out and out silence with decent performance - Yate Loon, Performance - 38mm high CFM jobs.
  • Distilled/De-ionised water on its own would be better, add some PT nuke for that Apogee. I'm sceptical to Fessers claims to be better than Distilled/De-ionised water.
  • The 120.2 rad will be plenty as long as you don't do insane overclocks.
  • 3/8" Tygon on 1/2" barbs is my favourite. A nice tight seal. But 7/16th Masterkleer is good also.
  • For a GPU block, you can't go wrong with a D-Tek Fuzion, but any core only block will do. Full cover blocks are expensive and offer little/no compatibility between cards. No need to watercool the GPU ram.

cheers for the information- tempted to get the gpu block now rather than fitting it sometime later on once i have the cpu loop already done.

GPU (8800GT) already has ram sinks on as i am using the S1 cooler passive anyway!

5litres of di-ionised water from halfords for £3.69 - bargain!

quick update question please!

I am planning on mounting my radiator in the front of my Antec 900 basically behind the front grills (i.e front 6 drive bays).

I have two new yate loon fans to put on.

Should they be sucking air from outside the case and in front of the radiator (so from the front of the case it would be the fans first and then the radiator)

Or

Behind the radiator sucking air in from out side so it would be the radiator at the front of the case and then the fans behind that.??

I have a 120mm exahust and the 200mm top fan still in place

I've never liked having a top-mounted radiator pulling air in as it seems to go against common sense. Exhaust air from the case through the radiator.
