ive had my wc set up for a year now.

how long does the coolant last in the system im using feser one coolant

on a 240mm rad and cpu block and combined pump and res if it needs flushing how do i do it and what do i use?

also i got half a bottle left of the coolant from when i fitted the syatem last sept will it b ok to use thiat or should i buy new coolant?

thanks

i'd change it every six months, because there may well be particulate debris in there which is reducing the efficiency of the entire loop.

And then I'd refill it with distilled water + REDEX/Purple Ice. ;)

Ideally, the loop would be decommissioned and each component would be cleaned using (perversely enough) tomato sauce and then a bucket of distilled water.

However, hydrogen peroxide is a good cleaner (for a distilled water loop) as the reaction dislodges all kinds of crud you'd never have guessed were in there.

As a cop-out, you could always just use a bucket of distilled water...

Feser suggest having Feser One in for a max of 1 year. I try and change mine every 6 months, but ends up to be 9 months because I keep putting it off.

Pretty much, although if you buy it from the shop where Every Little Helps, it costs about a third that price.

How do you do it?

  • If you can, disconnect your loop so that it's intact, but away from the computer...
  • Unplug the hoses going into the reservoir to drain the loop...
  • Submerge the pump intake hose in a bucket of distilled water/flushing liquid of choice...
  • Let it run through until the bucket is empty.
  • Repeat with a mix of distilled water and antifreeze
  • Same again with distilled water...
  • Reconnect loop and refill with distilled water...
  • Re-fill the loop with your coolant of choice (and don't waste money on Feser - just do it properly with distilled/deionised water and you'll be fine).

How much you do and for how long depends on how picky you are about getting your system clean. If you're like me, I'd just flush it through with distilled water and some other noxious chemical to make sure anything growing in there was dead and then reprime...

ok thx will it be ok if i put the de-ionised water in the loop by its self let it run round for 5 mis or so then drain it and put my new coolant back in?

Probably... I'd put some anti-freeze in there if you have some to hand, but if not, I wouldn't worry.

Basically, the cleaner you get your loop with each coolant replacement, the less likely you are to get stuff accumulating/blocking/etc. This is not common in well-maintained and setup loops, but should not be an issue if you do it properly. :)

Peroxide for cleaning blocks hadn't occurred to me. The missus cleans her contact lenses using a dilute solution of this, I think I'll give it that a try when she's not looking.

right just been amd got this for £1.59

is it the right stuff (soz to keep asking i want to make shure its ok to use lol)

all done used the hole bottle of water, i drained the syatem then flushed through twice (just filled the system up and left the pump running for 5 mins or so) with the water got a bit of rubbish out but not much, then refilled with the coolant i had left over from last sept.

thanks for the help
