I'm in the middle of trying to decide which graphics card to buy.

Does it make any difference if i buy MSI/Gigabyte etc etc if i'm just going to take the cooler off and replace with a Waterblock?

I was looking at either 280x, 290 or 770. Depending how much I can get it for.

Yes - depends if there is a block available for that board. i.e. if its non-reference then you need to check there's a non-reference block available for it. Otherwise if it's reference then you should be ok. Google the EK water block compatability website for some insight into this.

Outside of overclocking, different vendors might use different components e.g. memory (hynix vs elpida) or speed bin the GPU cores even if they're based on reference cards so it can make a difference in that sense when it comes to overclocking, once on water.
