Hello WC fans!

I have seen some WC in this section systems and was really impressed! ...so I could really use your opinion on some things...so I created and account for this forum!

I am looking to watercool my system in order to be able to OC it but mostly out of fun ... that and, a friend of mine had a few things lying around so after years of not building a PC I have decided to get back into it!

Currently my specs are:
CPU: i7 920 D0 Lapped
Mobo: MB EVGA X58-SLI LE
RAM: Corsair 6Gb 1600Mhz CL8 in Tri-Channel
HDD: 2x 300 GB Maxtor 7200 RPM in RAID0
DVD: none, ...and I don't think I need one!
GPU: *temporary* 7900 GTX - so pls ignore

PSU: Fractal Design Newton R2 - 650W 80Plus
CASE: Fractal Design Define R3

What I already have from a WC perspective
Pump
Reservoir
Memory WB
Chipset WB
Rad 360
Potentially GPU WB if I find a GTX480

Things on the list I would add-buy
1* 250 GB SSD (currently deciding between Samsung ...and something else)
1* 2 TB 7200 RPM Drive
1* GTX480 (my friend has a WB he could send me) or GTX570/580 and buy WB
1* CPU WB
1* Clear tubing
3* silent fans
+ all the fittings/connectors/fluid+dye
Add another Tri-Channel Kit of 6 Gb? Is it worth it?

Some of the WB are clear/plexy so I will try to keep this pattern if possible to play around with some dyes for the fluid.
Generally, as the current case is white/black, mobo is all black, memory modules the same ...I will try to keep this as well a pattern and maybe keep everything: black/white/nickel. Esthetics are more important in my case than performance but I am not pushing it into the extremes meaning I don't want to spend an awful lot of money as I only play SC2 anyway. Also having the end-result as silent as it gets is one of my goals.

So, because it's kinda late > What key element did I miss ? What would you change ? I know the Case I have is not ideal for example but currently I am trying to sell my case and maybe PSU and get new ones; especially the case - I would like something that could take my 360Rad.

On the other hand I want to keep this as simple as possible in terms of money as my goal is to get the best out of what I have and not have better performance with newer components and the Rad can stay outside for a while =)
That said, even if I have to buy additional stuff as you can see I am targeting the second hand hand market to look for any bargains I can find to fit my little project.
A question to that: is there a section with ads here on OC UK and if yes what do I need to do there as a new user to trade? I saw some rules I think ...and can it be that I have to wait for a few months before being able to trade?

If that doesn't work, what other places than ebay and AVForum do you recommend especially for used WC stuff?

So what case would you recommend that could natively take my Rad or with a bit of modding and would suit my loop ? What loop would you recommend as I didn't see here too many chipset+memory+gpu+cpu loop examples?

I cannot post attachments yet so> Link: https://picasaweb.google.com/104531181966080324100/PC
If you look into the 3rd pic there, there is a wooden IKEA frame - I could temporary screw the Rad just left from where the case is with the vents down on pull.

Note:
As you can see I am new on this forum and new to WC, so if I say anything stupid please do feel the need to correct me and sarcasm is allowed =). Also, English is by far not my first/second language so correct me if I say something stupid...

What did I do wrong that everyone ignores my thread ? :(

If I wrote too much the short version is : how would you design the loop for my WC project?

I'm thinking: RAD > CPU > GPU > CIPSET > MEM > PUMP/RESERVOIR > RAD ? I have read some people saying it doesn't really matter ...
Is the one 360 rad enough for this ? I don't necessarily need super performance on the cooling yet, so I could potentially add another rad later if needed.

Thanks for any advice ..and have an easy week at work :)

a 360 rad is not enough for that config ( with 480/580) you might have a hard time sourcing full cover blocks for those cards too.

the order doesnt matter, do whatever is tidiest

a switch 810 is a relatively good case for new watercoolers

Have a look at the project log section in OCUK, XS & OCN like forums, for projects with desired components(Mainly the case).
Then you can have an idea of what you can and can not do with your case.

Most of the high end components like CPU blocks, GPU blocks, RADs etc have about 1-2 C difference in terms of performance between them.
I think the choice of components is a personal taste thing - What looks good to me would not look the part for you.
So determine what components you like and then do some research on them.

Excellent feedback! thanks guys.

I have had a look already on numerous systems on this forum and I will do on others as well.

I will also search for another 240 rad then, or maybe I will first create a loop only with CPU and GPU adding more stuff on the way ...
I will also have a look at the suggested case see what space it would give me. (just looked at the switch 810, its a great case!!)

Is this still a good section to post keep posting on how my watercooling project will go with pics/etc or get recommendations for component before i buy them or should I start another thread on another section ?

hi guys,

i am at the stage where i am still looking at cases and comparing.
i have found not a Silverstone Temjin TJ07B but some interiour parts are silver and not black.

how hard/expensive is it to make these black ? is there any spray i could use that would stay on and look good or do i have to take it to a specialiazed paint shop ?

if i would have to take it, ay ideas how much would it cost?

thanks!

I have seen what can be done with the TJ07, it seems a WC'es dream if you have time and tools to mod it which I don't know if I really want to do for my first WC.

I have put an offer in for an xygmatek esylum and someone has a LD V10 as well (which is missing some parts, still waiting for some pictures from the owner)

Meanwhile I also got the SSD and a evga 580 with a EK block, so I could potentially transform this thread into my building log if a forum admin won't mind ?

If it can be done could I please ask an admin to move it to the appropriate section ?
