Hello,

I decided to create my own desktop PC a month or so ago and began purchasing components and am getting slowly closer to having it running, not finished but at a point in which I can turn it on with the core components. This is raised a few questions I never thought I would run into, after hours of research and hundreds to thousands of options I have come here in search of help.

My main use is gaming and some video rendering, as well as graphic design using fireworks/photoshop and occasionally flash.

I currently have the following components:

I am missing a couple of items:

GPU, Willing to spend around £120 on the first card, eventually wanting to go to Dual Sli/Crossfire.

Cooling system: Now here is my main issue, I want to spend up to around £300 at most on a cooling system, whether it is a open loop liquid cooled system with mod cons. Great fan cooling system, but low noise. Any option you suggest I would entertain the idea of within reason as long as it gives me the better overclocking possibilities for the Processor and both graphics cards. I will not be overclocking massively at all to begin with, but I would like it there for upcoming years in order to help make my system last longer in the future staying up to date/able to run the ever more demanding programs.

Any advice on cooling, preferably liquid cooling as well as the GPU's would be greatly appreciated.

Later I would like to triple box my monitors, I have 2 older ones I will use in the interim, but I would like 1 bigger monitor, and 2 smaller monitors. 24inch+ for the larger, and as long as they are not tiny, I am open to suggestions.

Thanks in advance for any help. :D

seems a bit silly to spend £300 on water cooling if your only cooling £120 of gpu. why not push it to about £170 for the gpu for a 7850/7870 and do a cpu only loop to begin with and then add the gpus in later if you feel the need?

Might not have explained that as well, its mainly because I can by 2 GPU's within 7 days of each other, meaning I would have £240ish in GPU's in the system. But i'm certainly open to spending more on the GPU's if it is worth it, I wouldn't set the price in stone as with most computer builds, an extra £20 - £100 on 1 component can make the world of difference.

Which open loop CPU system would you recommend, I'll also research the posted 7850/7870 now, cheers for the advice.

Probably Eve online, MWO. Will be able to appreciate FPS games again with a new rig, so any and all of those lol.

Ill check out the GFX cards, I might just put in overtime this week and get it next Friday.

What would you recommend for cooling this rig? I saw open loop for the CPU, but as with the hundreds of options, you can imagine, im baffled. For example, I saw some good reviews on the H100 Corsair cooler for the Processor, then some horrible ones with other suggestions.

LOVE the idea of water cooling, but also read that the case I have bought might be an issue with regards to room for the cooling system.

Cheers again, lots of helpful comments here. The GFX card suggestions look awesome, I must admit I was stearing away from the AMD GFX cards, but that was because I was unsure of the latest specs, after researching they look like great value, on par with Nvidea.

Sorry for all the questions. Ill research the cards more over the next day or 2 before coming to a decision, but I will certainly let you know when I come to a decision, its looking to be AMD on further investigation.

Yer the H100 is excellent cooling solution if you don't want to take the plunge into full WC. Then you wont have problems with the case. Overclockers have some excellent WC cases on the site. I'm using the 800d for my rig which i'm quite pleased with, i'm thinking of using the cosmos II for next years build.
Once i reach enough posts i'm going to be putting my 680's with water blocks up for sale.
