Hey!

I want to start the process of watercooling, but after trying to have a look and figuring things out, i realised it gets complicated :)

So i figured it would be easier just to ask!

I want to eventually get a full system, but i have got to start with CPU due to me changing my grafics card soon, i don't know what i'm changing it to yet so ill have to figure that out when i get there, so for now i'm just looking to cool my CPU but with the intention of cooling everything.

So i got a Intel Core i7 950 (socket 1366)
and i got the radiator ages ago, but here's the thing...I don't know what its called and there's nothing on it to give me a clue, i think i remember it been called a black ice, but after trying to look for it i can't find one like this. Maybe someone could help me out with that as well :)
And its all to go into a Cosmos S case :)

So basically i'm looking for a list of parts that you would recommend for me to get, Money isn't really as issue. But as i said before i will want to be adding to the system.

Thanks in advance!

As a minimum you'll need

1 x pump
1 x reservoir
1 x CPU block
3 x 120mm fans
3 x barbs or compression fittings
6-9 feet of tubing
fluid (1-2 ltrs): distilled, deionised or premix coolant

Look like you have a Black Ice GT rad there. Will handle a CPU only loop comfortably.

Thanks for the quick reply :)

I know what i need in the loop, but i just don't know what the difference is between the products apart from the price and the amount of water a pump can pump round. What size res would i need?

And as for the make of the rad i'm not sure, this is my problem. If you look at what mike gunnz said, Maybe a black ice GT, when you look at pictures of one both the in and out are at the same end, unlike this one :S

Does it matter which i get, barbed or compression?

Views as to which is better?

Performance? No difference.

Compressions look nicer and cost more. If you get barbs you need hoseclips.

Just make sure the size of your fittings are right for the Inner Diameter and Outer Diameter (ID/OD) of your hose/tubing.

That relies on the hose and barb making a tight enough seal due to the barb being bigger than the hose. A lot of people have sucessfully done this with those size bits.
I havent, so cant comment either way.

If you're going that way, heat the ends of the hose in hot water to get it over the fitting.

No matter which way you go, fit the barbs/compressions to your blocks/res/pump first. Hose goes on after.

I will probably just get compression then, if they are more expensive then so be it, but it seems a little safer. Easier to undo when i add more stuff to it :)

Ok so been looking for some parts and so far i have got a few things, but this is getting really confusing :P

So far i got...

Rad -

Compression fittings -

CPU Block -

First time i had to look through all this so a bit of a noob tbh :(

This is just for the CPU for now until i get a new grafics card so how many compression fittings will i need?

Also im strugaling a bit deciding weather that pump will be okay or should io look at other ones?

And clear hose, which one?

Thanks again :)

Just make sure the hose is same size as the compression

i always use 1/2 barbs and 7/16 tubing

get about 3m of tubing. You will probably only use 2 but to be on the safe side. If you cut it short your stuck and will cost more to get some more sent out rather than paying the extra 2 quid now
