Heya,

I am totally new to WC. I have read and watched videos in attempt to educate myself. I now think i am ready :)

I plan to watercool my Q6600 and my Gainward 'good' Edition" GTX580 and a single loop, inside my Cosmos 1000. This is a part list i have complied...

Swiftech Laing D5 - pump
Black Ice SR-1 360 - rad
EK Fullcover GTX 580 Waterblock
EK Supreme HF Copper Plex
EK Multioption Reservoir X2 150 Advanced
Gelid Wing 120mm UV Blue x 4
EK 1/2 " barbs
3m XSPC uv blue tubing 7/16
Tubing clips

Will buy distilled water.

Will the EK 580 waterblock fit my gfx card?
Do i need to buy thermal paste?

I phoned ocuk to buy a EK waterblock and a 580 i phoned them to check the block would fit ok and ocuk said no it wouldnt fit because the 580 wasnt a reference design.

I would recommend at least an extra meter of tubing just in case if anything goes wrong.

Edit: For your gpu you would need the EK-FC5X0 GTX GW block.

It seems the SR-1 360 performs better with LOW rpm fans, "tails from the pack after 1000RPM which is what we would expect from low FPI and a dual row"...decisions decisions...

edit: Could OCUK supply EK-FC5X0 GTX GW block?

thanks for putting me straight id hate for the OP to have bought something from what i had said for it to be wrong :mad:
 
Maybe ocuk are wrong i dont know im just passing on what they told me.

Ocuk said they didnt have any reference 580s in that the ek block would fit and for sure the Palit GeForce GTX 580 would not but were expecting some in soon so i bought the 6990 instead and a block direct from EK for it.

Ah sorry i got mixed up.

Overclockers isn't exactly the best place to stock watercooling stuff especially items that will sell very little order directly from ek or a uk supplier.

I wouldn't buy an expensive rad, look at the real difference between the rads, you're talking sub 1C difference, yet for instance a Black Ice SR-1, it can easily be twice the price of rads that perform almost identically, when you take into account minor variations in room temp(it won't be spot on 22C across all testing) it could be as far as 2C apart, or bang on identical performance. Either way by FAR the biggest difference in performance is going to a quad rad, or adding a second rad, rather than buying a more expensive single rad. GTX360's other than needing a high fan speed, and noise for great performance is still only marginally ahead, and an extra cheaper rad would drop temps FAR further than a gtx360.

IE 2x £50 360mm rads would beat a gtx 360 by several celcius even with silent fans, and yet still cost less than the single gtx 360.

I appreciate some people really want everything inside the case, theres no problem with that, some people are fine with adding a second rad using one of the radiator mounting kits, you basically "hang" another rad off the rear exhaust fan with a small and fairly cheap kit. With most cases having holes in the back for tubing its fairly simple to add and a single pump is MORE than enough power to use two rads and a few water blocks.

Personally I'd say there are two "sensible" options, go for a single fairly cheap 360mm rad and give up the 1-2C performance, you really won't notice it, or buy two cheap rads and fit a second rad in somewhere, externally mounted to the back, maybe a smaller 240mm rad somewhere, often people will have a 360mm up top and a 240mm somewhere in the 5.25" bays or infront/behind hdd cage, depends on the case of course.

Generally speaking, spending extra on one "uber" rad is mostly throwing money away.
