Been on air since I can remember and what with Conroe being released in the next 3-4 weeks I thought it was time to ditch my Opty 144 and go with the E6700. Planning on keeping my 7800GTX 512 for the timebeing. Because I plan on overclocking it from the outset what do people think of the following W/C rig 1/2", will be t-line with no res:

Akasa 62 case
Danger Den Intel LGA775 TDX
Danger Den Maze4 LP
DangerDen DD12V-D5
ThermoChill PA120.3
Tygon tubing
Zerex
3x Nexus Black/White 120mm Fans

Cheers!

Looks spot on, but I would change the TDX for an Aquaextreme MP-05 or a Nexxus XP.

Agreed, but i would change the TDX for anything Cathar derived, lol, LRWW, cascade or storm, all better performing blocks than the TDX :)

Well I could go for the 120.2 but figured it gave me some extra cooling with the 120.3 because I could go SLi at a later date.

Swiftec Storm G4 would have been my first choice for the CPU block but can't find one for love nor money.

EDIT
----

Fancy there being a Swiftec Extreme Cooling Kit in the b-grade section at Overclockers :) So now have a Swiftec Storm Block and the Swifec MCP655 pump :D

I may now scrap the Akasa 62 and keep my Gigabyte Aurora as it has all the plumbing etc already :)

So now leads to a few questions:

  • How good is the MCR220 rad compared to the ThermoChill PA120.2/3?
  • Replace the stock Gigabyte fans with Nexus Black and Whites?
  • Replace 7800GTX 512 with block and RAM sinks?

All good choices.

MCR220 is on a par with the PA120.2.

Try both fans, see which setup gives you the noise level/performance you are after.

Definately watercool the gfx card, you'll regret it if you don't :

i have a pa120.2 and get great temps if you want to kno them just ask. You will only need the 120.2

The MCR220 is exceptional value for money and is only beaten by the PA120.2. Marci (Thermochill) did some tests a while back to prove this.

sorry to hijact this threat or anything but im new to this watercooling stuff. I just wondered skilty, what fluid you will use in your watercooling, just tap water or are you going to buy distilled water from somewhere, sorry for the noob question! :D

You have to take into account its for a 775 board... now im taking a wild guess but its 'probobly' an asus p5 board.
but even if im wrong, blocks liek the white water, and such dont fit most the 775 boards because of capacitor issues. i ahve to hack a chunk out my RBX to get it to fit.

How much tubing are you planning on buying... plan ist then add another 2 foot ;) that extra £5 could save you hell

the PA's and HE's are similar to the black ice extremes and Pros. one is thicker ( HE and extreme) the other is thinner(PA and PRO) the thinner rads are designged to perform BETTER WITH LOW CF fans, hte thicker are designt to perform better with HIGH CFM FANS. the line has been drawn at around 50 - 60 CFM i think.
but the difference is meant to be marginal
doesnt mean one is beter than the other AT ALL. cars are designed to drive on the road... they dont make good boats ! ( see what im getting at ? )
^^^**EDIT^^^** - just read that has nothign to do with HE's and Pa's lol... but ill leave it in there for infos sake anyway :P

@ the person asking about coolant, hes using Zerex as an additive, its known to be the best additive out there for its all round usage, alge protection, corrosion protection etc etc ... mso tdont choose it because of its colour however ... shame ! never use tap water ! its full of crap which eventualy causes trouble in your loop. speacialy with blocks like storms. instead we use distilled or de-ionaised water... personally de-ionised, its cheaper, more availible and 'should' be claener too

not quite correct ;)

Black Ice Pro - 25mm deep, medium - low density fins
Black Ice Xtreme - 50mm deep, very dense fins
Thermochill HE - 50mm deep, reasonably dense fins
Thermochill PA - 60mm deep, VERY low density fins
MCR220 - 25mm deep, low density fins

its down to both depth and the density that determines fans required :)

Definitely not tap water, that will knacker the pump, rad and the very hard to come by Swiftec Storm block :) because of all the junk in it. Strictly distilled water or de-ionised water which you can buy at a supermarket or most car part shops (used in car batteries).

Will also be adding Zerex as well, not fussed about the colour it ends up as there is no window on my case ;)
