Watercooling Rig - OK?

not quite correct ;)

Black Ice Pro - 25mm deep, medium - low density fins
Black Ice Xtreme - 50mm deep, very dense fins
Thermochill HE - 50mm deep, reasonably dense fins
Thermochill PA - 60mm deep, VERY low density fins
MCR220 - 25mm deep, low density fins

its down to both depth and the density that determines fans required :)

I guess in which case the surface area of the PA120.2 and MCR220 would be the most important thing irrespective of depth and fin density?

This a completely leading question but what kind of temp differences are we talking between the PA and MCR220, 1-2c or more? Given that I will also be putting the GPU in the loop would this suggest the PA is the better choice?

With regard to tubing, I was going for the Tygon but the Swiftec kit comes with it, again is it worth switching?

So many questions, a lot of homework but my 1st attempt at W/C :D

The hose/tubing that comes with the Swiftech kit is 7/16 i/d and has a good bend radius. This will ensure a perfect leak free joint at the barbs and makes for a hassle free installation with respect to kinks.
It is a pain in the backside to fit around the barbs and hot water is key. No doubt you will have sore thumbs for a day or two. In my mind there is no real point buying Tygon, unless you need more than is supplied with the kit?

Again the Swiftech rad is a good rad....not quite a PA but will be more than enough to cool cpu and gpu and give you low temps.

If you want the lowest temps sell the mcr and buy a PA.

Thanks Matt. Think I will stick with the MCR for the timebeing and see what temps I get before I get the PA. I might order 2ft of Tygon just to make sure I have enough, don't want to get 3/4 through installing and run out of piping now do I? ;)

Do people flush water through their rads and blocks etc before fitting to clean them or not bother? Some people say clean it thoroughly first with white vinegar etc others say it makes no difference.

Off to order DD Maze4 LP, piping and some fans :)

If you have a restrictive block like the storm then i would flush first as you dont want anything clogging up the 'microjets' inside it.

Thanks cypriobrit. Just got all of the kit today so will do that. Now I can't decide whether to pre-order my E6700 or stick with my Opty 144, decisions, decisions!

Conroe Conroe Conroe ;)

bleh wait a while after the conroe release - the cpu's are excellent but I fear there will be many issues with the motherboards that support them.

I think I will wait to be honest. Off to the States in August anyway so will see what prices are like out there first! In the meantime my Opty get the water treatment :)

IIRC current watercooling blocks won't fit the new Conroe nor AM2 due to different sockets/brackets on the motherboad etc.

Or is it just AM2

They should fit 775 as it is exactly the same layout and I would have thought that applies to AM2 as well as it is 940. Conroe can use existing motherboards like the bad axe so its not a problem unless it is too big...

it is just AM2 conroe is skt 775 so no change but AM2 has a whole new system not 940. at the moment swiftech have released an adapter for am2, so have danger den so everyone else will follow soon
