Having never used watercooling before, i thought id get some ideas from the people who have

Currently I have the following

I7-3820 @4.6ghz
32gb quad channel
MSI 7970 OC
Corsair Carbide 300R

Currently with my large CPU cooler, the 7970 has to go in the lower PCI-E slot

I am thinking of upgrading to a single 290X as I am now gaming at 1440p and my 7970 cannot keep up (unless i drop games down to medium)

From reading all the reviews, the 290x is a very hot card

Now I am thinking of the following

Changing my case to the Corsair 750D, water cooling the CPU and GPU, but what sort of cost am I looking at to do this?

alternatively I just change my case, get another 7970 (CF worth it?) and buy a H110i cooler

I was looking at this for the 290x

Aqua Computer Kryographics Hawaii for Radeon R9 290/290x

Suggestions?

Thanks

Andy

Hi Andy, I was also thinking 750d but now have decided on the Carbide 540. Check the several build logs on the forum.

I've also got a 7970 which i'm planning to put under water along with my i5 2500k. I have the MSI lightning 7970 which I cant find a waterblock for so that will need to be on air while the other 7970 matrix which has a gpu block will be WCd.

I've done and still doing a load of research since this would be my first time too.

Maybe try to sell your 7970 on ebay and if you get round the 300 mark add some more get the 290x. To make your decision easier first check whether your card is reference based or has a gpu block in production.

Not much help, im sure other people will be along soon, although i've not really had much luck with my spec thread :(

I currently have a 3820 and two msi 7970 oc boost edition.

This is basically a cut down version of what I have but I have the 900d so I filled it up with rads.

Everything from case to full wc. Obviously you can save some money by sourcing some scythe gentle typhoons.

I specced the 290x as despite its heat output its a great card. I think its only slightly slower than cf 7970s but not all games scale well with cf.
