Well after purchasing my watercooling equipment from the Members market I installed it into my Akasa Eclipse. I didnt have a grill so couldn't finish the job 100%

Anyway my grill turned up yesterday, so I cut the section out of the roof with my dremel, I then mounted the rad to the grill but one hole in the roof wasn't quite allinged so I drilled it whilse mounted and driled into the core

Lots of coolant later and Im back on air :(

I really should have built it when I had the full setup but I was impatient. I have ordered a new rad along with some more tubing from OCUK which is coming tomorrow, thingers crossed it will go a bit better. I was lucky that I didn't damage anything.

So what? You went straight through the case and drilled through the rad as well? Well water cooling is a bit of a learning curve if your just getting into it, just learn from your mistakes, all you can do really unfortunately.

Hopefully the new stuff will go in with a bit less trouble! Good luck

you wont do that again in a hurry, just take your time,i know im still rebuilding mine since yesterday, still doing the cables lol, good luck with your new rad.

bad luck mate.....ive had some disasters myself (destroyed a 4870 with water and blew my main HD while building) i would say that most people that build PCs have had some disasters just put it down to experience and move on, the best advice i can give is give yourself enough time, plan plan plan what your going to do and test the kit before putting it in a live case...

Why? Also, what sized rad was it?

It was an XSPC RX240.

Why didn't you just buy the Omega top?

Super, for future reference, Akasa do an Omega case lid for about £15 that is a straight replacement for the ordinary Eclipse lid and it's pre-cut for a 240mm radiator. All the modern 240mm radiators fit fine (including the new Thermochills).

Just finished fitting a PA 120.2 into the lid of an Akasa Omega case and the pre drilled holes dont match those on the rad (there's a bar across the middle of the rad separating the fans).More than a bit annoying as i've just fished out an old XSPC 240 after reading this thread and by sight it would have fitted a treat:mad:

Some radiators use different fan spacing. I thought it was only thermochill who did so (and don't anymore). The omega is set up for 15mm spacing, which most radiators are. Feser 240 fits a treat.

@WJA96, I didn't realise you could buy the panels seperately. I've slightly cocked up the top panel of mine by sound proofing it before drilling a hole, are the panels fairly cheap?

Don't worry mate, first time i ever tried to mount my first rad i over screwed the screws using the wrong sized ones, and as u can guess upon leak testing there was a torent of water coming from the rad. I learnt from that to allways check correct screw sizes, that and try and get rads with alittle metal plate to stop stupid mistakes like that lol (ie, black ice).

And as it was my mistake i had to replace that rad, so we all live and learn from our mistakes, don't take it to hard.

It may be that your rad was from a bad batch. The first lot of RX series rads to be released had these issues(threads not lining up correctly). I got an RX360 from the very first batch that still stank of drying paint and the holes also didn't line up correctly. It required some brute force to even get one of the fans on. Do you have any simillar problems with the fan/mounting holes?

Yes, they're very cheap - depending on what you want - £10-£15. I'm sure I sent you an e-mail saying contact jerry at akasa (add .com and you have his e-mail address).

The amount of stuff I've drilled badly isn't true. It's so easily done.

They couldn't give me a lead time and I'm very impatient :(

£20 inc delivery but as above they havent got any in stock and can't give any sort of time scale.

EDIT: I can't believe I am out of bed at this time (got up at 7.00) to receive my rad.

I didn't realise Black Ice had a core protection plates. I may have to look at them again now Thermochill have gone to the dogs (well, metric anyway).

Well guys all is well, the new rad came just after 11 am and here is the finished result.

Must get a smaller fan for the NB :)

The camera is really showing it's age.

Well before I was getting temps of upto 85°C dependant on the room temperature.

My temps at the moment after 32 minutes of small ffts is 58,58,61,61 so It has definetey been worth while.

Also I havent got a fan on the exhaust, waiting on a delivery so very pleased.

While I had the board out I also did the bolt mod on my NB which has given good results, I reakon has reduced temps by at least 10-15°C.
