I use the Waterfox browser and have noticed recently that my screen starts getting recorded automatically. The recording is then saved on my Desktop.

This is the icon that appears :

Anyone know wth is this?

Waterfox was sold to a company called System1 last year with no information on what sort of company they are, so I would be very careful using it.

However searching around I can't see anyone else having the same issue as you, what add-ons do you have?

EDIT: Looks like more info came out since I last checked, System1 is a pay-per-click ad company with a majority stake on Startpage.

Wow.
If only Firefox hadn't changed design, I would have been still with them.

I have these add-ons :
OpenH264 video codec
Widevine content decryption module
Microsoft office
Shockwave flash
VLC web plugin
Silverlight
FB Purity
Greasemonkey
Revert site
Twitter disconnect
uBlock origin

Can you run waterfox in safe mode (which disables all the add-ons) and see if the recording still happens?

Do you have MSI afterburner installed and running in the background as looking at that screen capture makes me think that has gone a bit haywire and is starting recording of waterfox automatically when started (although I'm not 100% sure as the default location for saved video captures isn't the desktop)

If that isn't the case and the suggestion above doesn't fix it then a deeper dig might be required as something malicious might have slipped in unnoticed.

Doing it now and monitoring.

I do have Afterburner set to record videos and save to Desktop when I press F9. I don't press F9 for anything though. I will keep a close eye on this button today lol.
