Waterproof Digital Camera

Hello. Can anyone recommend a good waterproof digital camera? Something I can use when I go snorkeling or to use in the pool / on the beach. I quite enjoy taking photos and would like to start making videos too when im on holiday. So ideally something that allows me to do both.

Pretty much any of the main brand consumer waterproof cameras are fine, Nikon and Olympus generally come out top, by a small margin.

If you want proper control and/or RAW then your only option is the Nikon AW1, bit more expensive and bigger than the consumer cameras mentioned before though.

I got a finepix xp80 last year to take on holiday when mucking about with my son underwater and shooting videos. Tbh none of the videos I have seen on any of these cameras has been as good as a gopro. They suffer badly from noise. Where as taking my son down a waterslide with a gopro I borrowed you can actually hear his voice rather than loads of noise interference.

I got the XP80 as a one size fits all for film and pictures and it's good for the limited times it will get used but I should have just got a gopro of some description.

For videos, get a gopro it just can't be beat. I've read loads of issues about the SJCAM, the reviews go over the top because of the price. But £50 compared to £200 is a tough one. Get a Go Pro hero to see if you use it, though I did and regretted it. Wish I just got a 3/4 Black.

The olympus tg4 shoots raw has a pretty fast lens ad is probably the king of the tough compacts of cheap though!

I have an old Fuji XP30 was super cheap on there outlet store does a job but is't great but then most cameras struggle underwater as the light levels drop really quickly.
