quick Q guys does this sound like a waterpump failure to you guys?

Car is a 2006 Vectra C 1.9 CDTI 150 with circa 180k miles on the clock
belts and pumps were changed 40k ago in february using genuine Vauxhall parts

now last night i noticed the heater wasnt as hot as it should be never thought much of it until this morning its stone cold. Coolant levels are fine and are not dropping, and the car is holding a normal temperature when left idling.

as soon as i drive anywhere the temps start climbing but as soon as you come to a stop temps start to fall back into the 80's which is the normal operating range

thoughts please guys

If the waterpump had failed, the headgasket would have cooked by the time you'd driven it enough to overheat.

Sounds like a blocked matrix maybe or an airlock?

Did consider an airlock but it came on all sudden andthe cars had no work recently that interfered with the cooling system same with the matrix I really wouldn't expect it to go straight away

I'm thinking the bearing breaking up in the waterpump is a possibility but after thinking I might try blowing the matrix through first it's easy and free unlike a waterpump and timing belt

really really easy way to check, is there any water moving in the expansion tank?

If not, its broke.

It it is, its no broke.

If you can't see, take the cap off.

Happy days.

Also, rev it in front of you and you should see the water move faster. Like 'wwwhheeeeeeeeeeeee'.

Sounds like the thermostat or an air lock in the system, I had the same issues with mine and it was an airlock, it came after about 6 months of changing the Water pump and cam belt etc.. They are a pig to bleed fully.. The thermostats are crap and prone to failure, sticking open and causing overcooling..

I feel some mods coming on mainly the addition of petrol and matches

Pos vauxhall

Symptoms could well point to a broken/failing water pump impeller - at idle there may be enough thermosyphon action to cool the engine coupled with the impeller being under less load and therefore slipping less.

It's unlikely to be the thermostat - if it was jammed open it wouldn't be overheating and if it was jammed shut the heater circuit would still work.

It might just be an airlock, but you have to ask why it's suddenly developed. If a thorough bleed of the cooling system doesn't fix things then the pump would be under suspicion.

just in from the workshop this very minute,

diagnosis is waterpump failure ;(

off to vaux early doors tommorow for a pump and timing belt kit and some coolant :(

The Belt kit and Water pump was £135 trade club when i did mine last year.

just ordered all my stuff, dealer surprisingly no water pump or aux belt in stock wtf? have it in for 12:30 though woot

£150 quid for pump tensioner belt and aux belt so not too bad

Cool a fun day ahead. Its worth oiling up the bottom pulley bolts for the aux belt as one of mine snapped and i had to drill it out. :(
