I’m looking at buying a jacket for everyday winter, I’ve always wanted a waxed jacket but a few things I’ve read about them puts me off.

1. They are not actually very warm
2. They get cold/damp when they get wet.
3. Any clothing you wear under will get wax on it?
4. Wax transfer to car seats etc
5. Wax melts if jacket kept in boot of car on a warmer day
6. Not a con but I know they need rewaxing when needed.

if true then. All seems a bit pointless.

I wear a shirt to work so will be wanting to wear it over that.

or is this the wrong use case? I.e keep the jacket at home in the porch and wear it for dog walking along with hunter boots :D

Am I better off getting a technical jacket?

I’ve also come across Frahm jackets too which look good https://frahmjacket.com/

Thanks all.

I went to JL yesterday has tried a few Barbour jackets on, after I did I could feel/see the wax on my hands. So transfer is real but guess as it’s a new jacket.

Think il pass on it for now. I was also looking at M65 field jackets. Might grab a Frahm to see what it’s like and if it’s worth the money.

Why are they all so ugly?

Though tbh, judging by the models the target market seems to be middle aged males with a mid life crisis so I suppose it fits the cliche
its the design aspect and what goes into the Frahm jacket that intrigues me.

I went ahead and ordered a Peregrine Bexley Men's Wax Jacket yesterday to see if it was any good, arrived today and im very impressed. Has the cut that I wanted and i dont look like a farmer lol, id say more of the Bellstaff look?

Im impressed! fits great, looks great, decent spec with British Millerain 8oz Waxed Cotton.

Its not as shiny as the stock images make it look, its matt really.

I like that a lot, especially as it's still made in the UK. Funnily enough I had an email from Herring Shoes today saying they are stocking this exact jacket. I can't make out the colour. Is it the black or a khaki/olive colour?

EDIT: nevermind, I can see it's black in the direct link to the site.
in the link above to Country Attire, they have a 10% off code on it too, brings the jacket down to £185 delivered next day.

slept on it a few nights and have ordered a Barbour Bedale to give it a try. Something about the Hertigate and Made in UK draws me to it!

Am returning the Frahm jackets, as nice as they are, i do not think they are worth the money they are asking.
