Wayne Rooney - Victim of a witch hunt

The only reason he wants to be a midfielder is because he can hide without goals being a metric of his performance, as long as he keeps coming deep to get the ball and plays his safe backwards/sideways passes and diagonal passes to the wing people will compare his passes and passing success to Iniesta, Silver etc and say he's a top midfielder.

As an example one article I read said that against Malta he had something like 87% passing success rate and used it as evidence he performed well but Jordan Henderson who had a lower pass completion rate assisted the goals and was far more creative overall.

I was talking to a family member who has a season ticket at OT, he was saying that Rooney is their talisman and to get rid of him would be a mistake, he believes that every other member of the team should adapt to let Rooney play to his strengths.

I was stood there gobsmacked, really thought he'd be wanting rid but not the case.

A lot of people just repeat whatever they hear in the media because they're too dim to form their own view of things, others just go with the majority view because they don't want to be in the minority and fear being ridiculed for being controversial. I think that's why Rooney is getting so much animosity all of a sudden the majority view has turned and people have now realised that they've been conned by all of the clever marketing surrounding him.

I mean the other night against Liverpool he wasn't even missed and that was with Fellaini on the pitch, he's just become like some raggy old Kalvin Klein boxer shorts that you've had so long you don't want to throw them away because of the name, the good times you've had wearing them and how much they cost.
