Ways of improving iPhone signal?

No I'm not on about the iPhone 4 gaff here but just generally wondering if there is anything on the market that purports to increase the phones signal capture ability.
Having the thing on wifi at both home and work, you tend to forget how utterly dire connection speeds are when you are out in the sticks with 2 bars showing and not a sniff of a hotspot in sight.

Preferably 3GS specific products..
 
Nope. Unless you have some specific signal booster such as a Vodafone Sure Signal then there's very little you can do.

I've seen products which claim to make things stronger but they're all pants. If the RF isn't there then you can't make it stronger. You cannae change the laws of physics.
 
I doubt it but even if there were, increasing the transmit power of the phone won't increase the received signal strength.
