Im thinking of upgrading my GPU to a 6990 but wondering if my cpu will cause a small bottleneck? Perhaps you could tell me.
Im wanting to run Q4 new upcomming titles maxed, all AA/AF up top end etc.

I game at 1920*1200 (dont want to go anyway higher)

Heres what I have:

i7 920@4GHZ
6GB Ram
ATI 5970
Asus P6T
1TB Samsung F3

Perhaps I could also top up my ram to 12GB but I dont want this to hurt my O/C and maybe there isnt any point?
The only other thing is an SSD which Im considering but this wont give me any ingame performance increase?
I was holding out for the new BD and LGA2011 CPU's but I will perhaps do this upgrade when its confirmed they will be fast than my current hardware
Thanks for looking

You CPU is perfectly fine and you shouldn't even worry about that at all.

Your 5970 should still be fast enough, though the Cypress GPU does have the weakness lower minimum frame rate, and making the gaming experience might not "feel" as smooth as it should due to frame rate dropping or rising too sharply rather than having a stable middleground...but most likely it's not gonna be and issue for 1920 res and your minimum frame rate should be high enough.

With that say, I would still say it's a better idea to just keep on your 5970 to play the new titles, and if you not satisfied with performance, upgrade then instead of worrying now.

I just have the feeling my 5970 will struggle to produce a solid constant 60FPS in BF3 etc hence wanting to upgrade the GPU.
Im hitting around 70-100FPS in BC2 ATM

Stop worrying :D

Just try to remember, it would only take a day or two for a new graphic card to arrive at your door after you place the order :p

However, if there is some idiot willing to take your 5970 off you hands on the bay for £400, then by all mean sell it and grab two 6950 2GB to Crossfire instead lol

Don't put the horse before the cart. Just wait till it's released and see how it goes. If you need to upgrade then do it. The game wont go anywhere. With next day delivery to your door, you wont be sitting around for months wishing you could play it.

Id hold on to what you have at the minute, 70-100 fps in bc2 is pretty good. By the time bf3 is released, their should be newer cards on the market. As mentioned above, an ssd wont make a massive difference in games, (faster load times is what ive experienced with an ssd). Your cpu and ram are more than enough for any upcoming game.
