Hi,

I couldn’t help but notice while driving today all over the m25 that waze apparently shows inactive cameras? Since when?

it seems like most of the inactive cameras that are shown by waze are the old grey boxes that are overhead above each individual lane; am I missing something? I always though these cameras were on as well as the newer ones on the side which are now painted yellow.

The above picture shows the cameras that Waze seems to think are inactive now; which I’m not sure how true it is.

someone enlighten me lol.

@Scania

You know a bit about the roads hence why I’m tagging you.
If Surrey (assuming that’s the area) Police are anything like Staffordshire Police then only about 10% at most of the cameras are active, this is down to insufficient resources to process more than this number of cameras, assuming of course they have that many active cameras in the first place.

Very few cameras are active, the presence of the cameras “shell” is relied upon for the deterrence.

Fair enough, did not know that.

Do you know if these overhead gantry cameras that are above every single lane (picture above) work with the variable speed limits? I see people booting it through them and quiet honestly I never seen them go off, the only ones I see go off is the ones on the side of the gantry.

Don't know for sure, but when I worked nights a few years back, I stayed on my limiter (55mph) through the 50 signs, as did every other truck, not one ticket, make of that what you will....

How would Waze know? I noticed a lot of people ignoring the variable speed limit cameras on the M25 last week. I assumed they knew the cameras are off.
And yes, plenty of artics getting irate and overtaking in the 50 zones...

not sure how would waze know, the only ones it shows as off are the overhead grey boxes (old style cameras) make of it what you want, I don’t think I’ll be taking the risk anytime soon.

the newer style cameras it shows as on.

I’m usually foot down to the floor all the time as well, my trucks limited to 53mph (52 on satnav) never received anything either, usually through the 40mph bits I go through at around 44mph never had a problem either.

Anyway I was just wondering about the Waze thing, I find it a bit weird that it shows them cameras as off and my truck satnav still picks them up.

I just stick cruise on at whatever speed limit is shown, and then watch everyone overtake me.

Nonetheless I hate driving on the m25 as of late, perfect example was today, coming back from the M3, all around Heathrow you can’t go above 10mph, and then at JCT 19, no warnings no nothing limit went straight down to 40mph for literally 2 gantries even though there was no traffic, and back up to NSL; then back down to 60mph for about a mile or two.

Whoever sets them limits on the m25 seriously needs bashing.

Yes I have to do M40/M25/M4 occasionally and it's certinly not as pleasant as it used to be.

What are you expecting to see? Children in the road? They're controlling traffic flow, not there to make your personal trip super quick.

I'd have assumed that to be fine anyway due to the generally used 10% + 2 rule. So I wouldn't expect a NIP unless you were doing 57+
