I will do my first custom WCed loop just for the CPU to start with (4790K), planning to expand it later for a full MoBo and GPU loop. Any suggestions on my shopping list? Any cheaper alternatives?

Hi there, it is always good to see more people water cooling.

A couple of things I would change personly.

XSPC RayStorm CPU WaterBlock (Intel)
And swap it for one of the ek ones, whichever takes your fancy. from personal experience, from fitting both the raystorm and various ek ones. the ek ones are defiantly eaiser to fit(personal choice) I also feel the ek blocks look like they are worth the money, I feel the raystorm looks cheap and tacky(again personal choice)

I also have found that bay reses are a bitch to bleed the air out of. have you considered a ll in one unit, ie a pump/res combo, there are some good ones such as the ek ones and the xspc Photon.
Also I know you might be on a budget but the hose you have chosen is ok but the Primochill Primoflex Advanced Tubing is regarded as the best.

The only downside to the XSPC D5 Photon is I think they are slightly harder to install, if you screw them into your case. although you could use the 3m two sided sticky tape type stuff.
Cpu blocks

And finally I would change your fluid to the mayhems one, again regarded as the best.

Hope this helps bare in mind, this is my personal choice.
