WD Green 'Load Cycle Count' Common Failure

I've recently retired my WHSv1 server and during testing and shuffling disks around to create new backup sets was a bit surprised to find one of my WD20EARS had reached 1.2M LCC. It's still going strong BTW :)

I've just lost one WD grean 1TB, WD10EADS. Had no problems with them til now. In fact I've had 33000+hrs use out of them with no tricks or tweaks.

The one I'm still using has 34000+ hours on it, and a LCC of only 4758.

I guess from reading this topic that I should be glad I don't shut down too often :D

Makes me wonder if the greens have a different firmware when installed in the 'My-Book' enclosures, that's how I bought them cos they worked out cheaper than just buying the bare drive.

My WD mybook 1GB has been going strong for over 6 years. But it makes horrible noises, hence me getting backups from it every Sunday.

How do you view all these HDD numbers as numbers? I can only get the smart info which has 0-200 values.

struggling to understand why my 4 year old WD 2TB Elements (it's a green EARS inside) is getting 5.75 load count per hour, while some of yours are getting +10 times that value
