Hey guys, this WD SN850 is being a real problem and I just cannot figure out what is wrong with it. I assembled my pc a couple of weeks ago.

Config:
Motherboard: MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5600x
GPU: MSI Ventus 3060ti
RAM Corsair Vengeance 2x8Gb 3600mhz.
Memory: WD black NVME SN850 1TB

When I first started up the PC, it would not detect the NVME drive on a cold boot. The drive is connected to the M2_1 slot. On closing the bios it would detect the drive.
I downloaded the Western digital dashboard and updated the drive to the latest firrmware. And now it just refuses to be detected in the M2_1 slot and only reads in the M2_2 slot.

I've reinstalled the BIOS on the motherboard thinking that might be the issue and that didn't do anything. I checked the motherboard compatibility and it says that the SN850 should work in the M2_1 with Gen4.

Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: Apologies for posting this in memory insteady of storage. Would apprecite it if it could be bumped to storage.

So the drive works perfectly ok in the M2_2 slot ? Running at expected speeds when checked with crystaldisk ?

If that is the situation then the motherboard most likely has a fault with the M2_1 slot because the ssd is working fine elsewhere. If you had another NVME drive to test in that slot it would help diagnose if it was faulty. You have reinstalled the BIOS so other than messing around in the BIOS and seeing if there is an odd setting messing you up then there is little you can do that will not void your warranty.

Still in waranty so if you are sure it is faulty you can hopefully return it. Or just keep it as it is, is X570 so both slots are pcie4. No idea if you require both slots to be working for your storage needs but if it is working then you have a choice to just do nothing, far from ideal but it is an option.

WD SN850 not getting detected was a know issue

Not detected In the bios, in windows?

I had a odd issue where the link speed would 1x on my 2tb drive but removing it, rebooting , the rebooting with the drive back in worked for me.
