WDTV Live - audio/visual output help

I have purchased one of these second hand without knowing much about it.

I am looking to get the video outputted to my 24" monitor which has DVI and VGA input. Its a 1080p monitor (1920*1080). With regards to audio, I would like it outputting to my Logitech speakers (2.1) which has a standard 3.5mm PC jack.

Is this possible? If so, what cables will I need?

It has HDMI out so you can probably to use a HDMI-DVI cable (or a HDMI-HDMI cable with a converter on one end) to give you video ... I can't remember the audio outs on the unit off the top of my head though.

See that's what I thought....but they thought that maybe if you are using HDMI, you have to have Video & Audio output via it.
 
Nope, you can set the audio to be out put by the HDMI, the optical out or the Analogue out.

Oh and just remembered, the analogue output is a 3.5mm jack lead which uses 3.5mm jack to 3 phonolead to give video and audio out, but you can use it for just the audio too, so you should be fine to connect it straight to your speakers!

Great thanks! I'll use the splitter just to be on the safe side!
 
When you get it, check which firmware it's running, as it may be that you want to upgrade (or not...some things have been broken in the latest firmwares) or even install the custom firmware WDLXTV, which is rather good!
 
I think its coming with some custom firmware (I bought second hand). Anything particularly fancy about the customer firmware? I think its coming with BRAD or something like that.

Does it have fancy extensions and plugins or something?
 
It has a nice addition which allows for plugins, and has movie sheet functions built in which is nice. also has a bittorrent client built in, a webfront end, is controlable using an android app etc, not to mention improved auto resolution switching and more stable network shares, shoutcast, apple movie trailers and things.

The B-Rad custom firmware WDLXTV is what I'm running and is really good!

In addition to this I use a plugin called moviesheets+ which is great! (check the other WDTV Live thread on here where there are details)
