I literally have no words, I am not judgemental of polyamorous relationships but this one seems incredibly unfair. The guy must be lying to himself or is a genuine cuckold, which he seems to deny in the story.

She would not want me to have the same, and so I remain happily monogamous. Through honesty, openness and trust, we have found the formula for a perfect model relationship.

He is definitely in denial and his wife is taking him for a mug.

How many of you would be truly happy in his shoes? :D

I don't doubt that are some people out there who would honestly be ok with this, but the vast majority would straight up NOPE such an idea. Even if the roles were reversed, I wouldn't want it.

I can't say I would be okay with that but they are all adults in that story so they can do what they please really.

that's just utterly ******* stupid. he's prepared to bend over backwards to let her have her cake and eat it in order to keep her happy but by his own admission she's not prepared to do the same for him.
She would not want me to have the same....
that speaks volumes. while we shouldn't really judge others in these types of situations, in this instance i am, he's a moron. she's getting banged silly by some young stud while he's sat in the living room watching telly. well played you clown.

I haven't clicked on the link and won't. From what I can glean, it's a relationship whereby the man stays monogamous to his partner while the woman goes and has sex with other guys because it's what she wants?

Clickbait article from The Guardian published for no reason other than to generate traffic, controversy and sharing on social media. The total state of modern journalism.

It's someone writing a letter in to the Guardian actually. Not an article. It is verbatim the guys letter and that's it.

I would bet that he's out of his league and will basically let her walk all over him and she's probably only with him for the lifestyle and money. It'd be interesting to see what would happen if he were to introduce a lady friend into the fold.

If they are both happy it's fine.
Obviously nothing is hideen. A lot better to be in that and happy than be stuck in monogamous relationship unhappy.

I doubt he's truly happy though. It's like those mid 40s single women with no children and 5 cats. They'll tell you they're loving life, but we all know deep down it's a lie they try desperately hard to cover up.

She's probably far better looking than him and he thinks he won't find another girl like her, so he's convinced himself that allowing her to sleep with anyone she likes is the right choice, because it means she sticks around. It's quite sad actually. I bet he pays for everything too.

Exactly, it's a coping mechanism to deal with a bad situation but he's portraying it as some kind of virtue which is the coping mechanism. "I'm such a great guy I'll let anyone bang my wife because I'm not some thug who would knock the guys block off and drop a bad relationship". It just makes him look weak and desperate.

"She would not want me to have the same" is the key part IMO, particularly since what they're referring to is "two people having a good time."

Polygamous relationships, sure. Relationships in which one/some of the people are monogamous and one/some are polygamous, sure. A relationship in which one person is allowed to have a good time with other people and the other person is not because their partner wouldn't like it, no. It's not a decision he's made for himself. It's a decision she's made at him. That's what makes it wrong IMO.

Quite possibly. But there are a lot of view points and such a variety of views out in the world then it is quite possible he's happy.
An example in my head might be with people who are asexual and with a sexual partner. They may genuinely be happy if their partner is out scratching the itch of that is literally all that itch is.

It does say a lot however when it isn't equal, and he isn't allowed the same.

You're probably right and he is 'punching above his weight' and feels this is best he is going to get.
Might be money, might be looks, he might be pathetic. Its far more likely and could well be abuse/brainwashing. Much how in the more common situation of domestic abuse, when the abused had legitimised the abusers actions

Even if he's genuinely happy, it would be hard to discern if he hasn't been groomed into it effectively.

Not for me!

LOL I bet all his male feminist friends are proud, it even says that this guy enjoys watching their foreplay and hearing them going at it in the spare room... WTF :D

They don't mention kids in the article, presumably he's had way too much soy at this point. I guess the wife might end up preggers via the "lover" though, bonus SJW points if they're a white couple and the baby isn't - he can write a new article about the "perfect model family" and illustrate how he's not only into female empowerment but he's fighting white supremacy too.

He'll get loads of applause jazz hands at the next momentum meeting he attends. So brave...
