I have the system in sig below. I have not done any gaming in a long time. I had a x800xtpe but sold it a while ago, needed the £ and went back to my old 9800pro. I havent played anything for a while because i though that my 9800pro will let me down and i wont be able to play the games the way i want to.

Just installed Far Cry after a long time and i let it auto cofigure everything so its on the settings it wants to be and at 1024*768 the game looks and works really really nice. I am pleased! I might give Doom 3, HL2 a go at some point now.

We really should workship these old 9800pro's, they rock!

they WERE good, but I dont think I could stand to play a game in 1024x768 any more, 1280 or 1600 all the way for me now

I doubt very much it runs some of those games "all good"

9800pro was a good card but it would fall on its knee's with todays games @1280x1024 with some AA/AF

I suppose it depends on what you deem good. For instance, in BF2 i like 4xAA and anything above 1024 with medium/low settings killed the poor thing :D

i thought it was going to be decent enough for my daughter, but when i saw her playing city of villains on it last week, i felt so sorry for her, it ran like a two legged dog, time for an upgrade for her soon i think.

9800pro ws a pretty disapointing card, it added practicly nothing.

The 9700- now that was a card, simpyl awesome in power and features. What did the 9800 bring, eh, nothing much really.

For truth!

My 9700 pro is still going strong, HL2 loved it. Haven't tried anything never mind.

I think the increased clock speed of the 9800 Pro's was a huge improvement over the 9700 Pro - I remember going from a 9700 (NP) to a 9800 Pro and the difference was definitely notable.

To be honest, I think the 9800 Pro's still a good card, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who doesn't wanna shell out £130+ for a new graphics card.

9800 pro is still a good "mid range" card imho, i have one in my sempy based net pc. It will play css at 1280x1024 at max settings (no aa or af though) with playable frame rates, i wouldn't want to comment on how newer games ie FEAR would run like on my net pc.

Still have mine, in the rig that's in my signature. I run my games in 1360x768. HL2 and CSS particularly work well with 2xAA and all settings on high, achieving above 60fps.

I am looking to upgrade though, but I remember when I bought my 9800pro, early 2004. It was one of them realy easy decisions to make, it was the best card by far for £150, undisputed mid-range champ. Now there is not such a clear winner for £150; 6800GS looks strong, but Ive been hearing it's a mixed bag.

I would love to upgrade but cant bring myself to spend the money. Like i said i used to have a x800xtpe and have played far cry at 1600*1200 with max settings and AA and AF on. But i personally think far cry looks great even with my 9800pro. If there is a massive difference between now and how i was playing it before, i cant notice/remember it!
