Weapons

Disappointing 5/10

This film reminds me a lot of Longlegs. The first half of the movie felt too bloated and sluggish. Just as the tension begins to build, the film shifts perspective, retelling events through another character's eyes. Even after the ‘mystery’ is revealed, the story doesn't progress further, leaving no real explanations. The film then inexplicably concludes with a chase sequence reminiscent of Benny Hill.

I have the same thought process. I should have learnt my lesson from the unrealistic expectations I had from 'Longlegs'.

During the first half I remember leaning over to the missus and asking her if the film was 'slow' or if it was just me?

All of the hype had this as a presumably 10/10 horror film, and the trailer (in my opinion) was excellent.

However...... It's a 7/10 film.

Amy Madigan was excellent in this film.......

I ended up stumbling upon the film ‘825 Forest Road’ yesterday (on Shudder) and I was very bemused to see an almost identical approach to storytelling as ‘Weapons’. The whole ‘chapter following a character thing’, presented in that same way.

How funny. Unfortunately, 825FR was pretty dreadful :o

Liked it but the end was so slapstick with her being chased like that.
Saw this on Saturday and the whole cinema was laughing. As "Benny Hill" as it was, the more I think about it, the more horrifying it is.
Her reaction when she hears the chime (as the twig breaks), her shear terror, the relentlessness of the kids and, of course, what they do, it's quite terrifying. That juxtaposition of the slapstick and the horror is very effective in my opinion.

We had a near full house 120 seat screen and the laughter was loud and earned. Even if it was an obvious comeuppance in hindsight I never thought it would be so silly.

I think I was laughing more at the fact that my friend sat next to me was jump scared and let out a scream when the mad aunt suddenly appeared in the basement after the dad was looking for his son down there

Watched this film on Saturday a few hours after watching Interstellar. On the whole, I enjoyed it. Quite a lot of funny moments too. 7/10.

One thing I didn't understand from the plot:

How collecting the names of the children and then possessing them in the house helped her "illness" or whatever. Perhaps she was so deranged that it'd never make sense.

Yeah, if I was Thanos, no matter how desperate I was, I'd be shining a floodlight (minimum) down there before rushing through the dark in a creepy house like that. And agreed, wanted to know more about the antagonist.

Although I don't recall it being mentioned, I kind of assumed that she was going to try and drain their youth/life force in some way. She's tried with the parents but it didn't work so she was upping the dose. :D
Probably intended as some sort of statement about people who'll clutch at any straw/quackery when they get seriously ill...especially the believers in "non-traditional medicine". ;) Or that's how I read it, anyway.

"Upping the dose" - you're exactly right. I couldn't put it better myself

"Because the night before at 2:17 in the morning every kid ... "

Wait what?

Either it was 2:17am the morning of the school day, therefore not the "night before" or if it was the "night before", meaning the preceding day then everyone would have been aware the children were missing.

It's a film, same as any TV show as well as of late

Writers do not remember anything beyond the previous word they wrote.
