What wearable tech do you use?

Installed Google Fit on my Oneplus 6T couple of weeks ago and noticed far better improvement in distance tracking in games like Pokemon Go but also like the daily goals you can set. This lead to me looking into fitbit and smart watches as I like the idea of tracking heart rate etc

So what do you use or have used? anything to avoid?

The apple ones have always been in top 5 for any of the online reviews i've read.

Mainly do walking/cycling but would like it to be able to record while swimming which makes it a little more difficult i imagine as the activity is not able to rely on phone gps tracking for distance accuracy. Those with built in GPS i struggle to see how they'd be accurate in say a 25m pool if doing lengths

A semi smart Garmin Fenix 3hr, read messages and decline calls all I need to do without pulling my phone out of my pocket.
Had a look through the Garmin range yesterday - not cheap but seemed to be quite well rated for fitness tracking.

Do you use the app much for tracking different sporting activities?

Just been looking at the fossil smartwatches today and they seem to link directly into the google fit app rather than have their own app

noticed some of the expensive ones come with or have the option for sapphire glass which should be all but scratch proof. Though as you say when they are charging £250-£500 you'd hope they came with sapphire glass

I have a Fitbit Charge 3. Does what it's meant to do most of the time. Sometimes it'll be flaky to sync with my phone but I think that might be down to the BT on my phone being a bit iffy at times so I'm not overly bothered. It's a bit annoying when it hasn't synced for a few days but when it does, everything goes through and is fully tracked.
It does notifications, silent alarms (vibrates on your wrist to wake you up) and is waterproof.
I recall that the glass is supposedly scratch proof...I've scratched two units so far. I did have a major pixel failure on one and they sent out a new one without issue, just the tracker though, no straps or charger.

E: I got mine as I wanted to keep an eye on my heart rate mostly, so step and sleep tracking are added bonuses for me. The app allows you to record food, weight, water etc. although I don't tend to use it a great deal for that.
Downside is that you can only use the Fitbit app, you can't use a third party app to sync with as it doesn't connect via conventional BT connections but via the app itself.

Do all fitbit's require the fitbit app and dont allow the device to sync with any other apps like google fit and samsung health etc?

you still need a heart rate strap if you want accurate data ..
I usually can't be bothered to put one on, but it is nice if you do fartleks to match heart rate change with geo location where you sprinted ..I'm pretty sure I can't touch 190 now even if the watch says I can.

for swimming, having a button you can hit for end of length is useful too, if you're not doing agressivre push-offs, which most watches want.
I did have my concerns over the accuracy of the HR sensors on a watch. Not seen any that advise to wear it inverted so the face is on the inside of the wrist for better measuring of pulse, most pics i've seen do show the sensors under the watch face and not on the strap. This to me would make sense for a strong pulse read giving better accuracy.

Had a couple of Fitbits over the past years, build quality was woeful though, I literally had a 2 or more replacements for each one (normally the strap starting to come apart).

Since getting into triathlons, I bought a Garmin Forerunner 935. It's on another level (as you would probably expect from the price). HR tracking is much more accurate, although I wear a chest strap when training. Battery is also pretty impressive too, I can easily get 10+ days if I'm not training with the GPS, and even with that on, I get more than I did from my Garmin Edge cycle computer.
What kinda of hrs battery do you get from it with GPS on? I do like the look of the Garmin forerunner and fenix models. How is it for swimming, the garmins seem to spec quite a range of features for swimming

Anybody know of any big name stores that stock a range of smart watches which you can try on to check how they fit? Places like John Lewis worth a trip? High St these days is woeful for try before you buy

I've had a Fenix 5 for a few months and I'm really enjoying it. I cycle a lot so it's great to be able to use that instead of Strava + chest HR monitor. Also has the additional benefit of being able to give me directions, see notifications, swim with it (track lengths), and tell the time.
How do you find the accuracy of the HR sensor on the watch compared to using the chest strap?

Ordered a fenix 5s off fleabay, apparently new unboxed but quite a bit cheaper than any other online store or high street. Hopefully not a scam or fake. ETA friday 6th. Quite excited!

I know quite a few ppl that use the watch at a glance to keep an eye on HR when running/cycling etc to stay below a set rate. Breadcrumb trails and other features very useful on these watches if not on a road/path to keep on course. The plus version of the one I've bought allows locally stored music so can go running without having to take the every increasing sized phones out with them connect bluetooth earphones

ended up getting a fenix 5s off the bay at a reduced price (new unboxed). I can only assume due to the recent launch of the fenix 6 range

Very happy with it so far, and already managed to annoy the misses by setting up Live Track so she gets alerts of my route and location when i go out on the bike. Useful if I ever go missing or get really drunk and need her to come get me - just turn on Live Track and wait for the email to land :D

It is definitely loaded with features, going to have to watch a few tutorials I think to get up to speed quickly. Interesting to see my avg sleep per night since I got the watch is less than 4hrs, knew i didn't sleep much since been in and out of hospital last year but didn't think it was that bad
