Someone has just asked me if I know why weather presenters always stand on the same side of the map when giving the forecast. I made up some rubbish about the possibility of female endowments blocking out the Irish Republic rather than London, but I wonder if anyone does actually have an answer as I've never seen a forecast done from the right of the screen?

TV's are mirrored everything you see is reversed ;) :D

Im guessing that it is standard practise to do it on the left and by doing it on the left you are not hiding any map which you do when your on the right (your blocking europe). Thats what i hink anyway. But thinking about it ive seen presenters switch sides during the weather presentation

They use a little clicker in their hands to change slides, if a weatherperson is right handed, they dont want to be pointing to things while holding the clicker!

<Insert alternate lame explanation here :p >

Have you noticed on one of the terrestrial ones (can’t remember bbc I think) that the background tiles are really obvious now. Are they in a temp studio or something?

I mentioned this to the missus the other day (cracking conversations we have), it's when they have someone doing the weather when they're in the same studio as the news presenters. Watch it at 6pm this evening and you can count all six squares which stick out like sore thumbs.

It's because they used to use blue screens but now they can actually see the map behind them therefore making their job easier (as many presenters have messed up in the past) and is also something to do with the fact that when they pan accross from the main studio bit they don't have to project anything onto the blue screen.

Beacause it looks better?

Weather presenter facing into the screen, the UK curving into the screen... maybe... sorry, am at work and bored...

I thought they had a screen in front of them showing the map etc they had to relate their movements to that and not to the blue or green background.
