Web Based Helpdesk software

As part of a new web site in development it will need web based helpdesk software can anyone recommend any, free is a bonus but it has to be of a good standard and kept up to date.

Also looking for some forums but i already have a few options in mind things like vbulletin, invision boards, phpbb etc.
