Depends on how much you want to spend, as some of the expensives ones are a lot better than some other ones.
Also whats your connections speed, and what is the lighting like in the room. (ive found some really good ones struggle in low light)
just got a logitech clicksmart 510, its a great webcam/can be used as a digital camera, really is good quality as well, they're meant to be something like $150 but i picked mine up for £20ish, might want to search for one.
For one, it looks a lot better than other cams. And I just like the design of the cam and its pretty cool too, when you turn on your comp, you can hear it move left and right, kinda like a robot
Creative cams can be proper L33T! The motion ball one I hear is something special. Always go with Logitech or someone known, the unheard of cams tend to be awful 99.9% of the time
This cam is well worth the money, as well as the full screen avatars, you can add decorations to live images, such as hats, eye patches, even a gas mask, and they follow your head around. It also pans and tilts, either manually, or you can set it to follow your face, so if you move out of shot it follows you.
just search for quickcam sphere or orbit on youtube, you'll find loads of vids people have made with them
I use the QuickCam® Communicate STX which can be picked up for just over £20. With this I do webcams con. with my brother in Western Canada, and my sister in Australia. Very good it is too, there is a facility in the drivers that lets you adjust the aperature of the cam, ie for low light etc.
What is also important is the software you use to communicate with the other party, ie MSN Messenger etc.
We used to use the Logitech Orbit for web conferencing while I was @ work last year. Its a very good camera and support from Logitech is also very good. The software that it comes with is very good to configure the camera, although I think this may be a tad on the expensive side.
