Anyone know a good source for getting into contact with up and coming web designers (think college/uni students etc).

Not keen on the "post a project" type sites as get frustrated with the dross that these can throw up. Especially when you set criteria like "Must be based in the UK" and you get someone whose first language quite clearly isn't english!

Looking for site designs that can be then converted to work in wordpress as well as logos etc.

I do a little bit, I'm a uni student (Graphic Design). But I can't think of anywhere I would go to in order to look for work

I particularly like working with Wordpress, but my coding is extremely messy :3
Having said that I have a friend who is very good with HTML, CSS, PHP and a little MySQL

I hate to say it but to me it sounds like you're saying "where can i get really cheap web design!" And you pay for what you get on those sites

if you're not gonna be prepared to pay a competitive amount then people won't put the time or effort in.

(not that i am saying anything about anyone who say they are willing to have a look or on your real intentions as OCuk members seem to be an honourable bunch! just more from experience of these sort of threads and friend a who got stung by one, badly :( )

I have used RentACoder for 5 or 6 projects and been happy with the results.

Getting a web designer/developer who speaks good English is easy and I have used the services of one particular developer from India several times and been happy with the work and the price. Provided you give the designer/developer a reasonable specification you should have no problem. However, you need to make the effort to prepare a specification and then list it on the RentACoder website.

When I have done this in the past I have not asked for bids, rather, I asked specific developers via the RentACoder website if they were interested. You can find possible developers by using the selection criteria for areas of expertise. You can also review their feedback and details of previous projects to give you an idea if they are capable of what you need.

I know you say you are not keen on the "Post A Project" sites, however, for quality work from a developer who speaks good English and at a very competitive price, RentACoder is always my 1st port of call.

Hope the above helps.
