Web hosting, DNS problem

I recently moved a domain name from one ISP to another and changed the domain name server to my hosting company once the domain was transferred.

I have set up the hosting, however the old website is coming up (which I did not design) when the domain is entered and not the new one.

How long does it take to update?

The correct new name serves were changed about an hour ago and are showing in whois.

Should the new website be up soon then?

It'll take 12-24 hours before all DNS's are updated, but it'll largely depend on your ISP's DNS caching. Trying viewing the website via an online proxy.

In my experience, such changes with Fasthosts take around 7 hours and changes with my host of choice (tsohost) are done much much quicker.

The new website is visible through an online proxy, thanks!

Depends on your ISP (read: your choice of DNS host) and sometimes the actual TLD (.com/.co.uk) etc.

If you can switch to OpenDNS you are able to manually refresh their cache and usually (unless your PC/Router is caching the DNS entry) the changes are instant.

some ISP's are lazy when it comes to updating their DNS ... if you're stuck using the old DNS, try flushing your DNS and or reboot your router/modem and it tends to pull the latest down

Yup, Pipex/.Tiscali are awful, DNS changes seems to take the full 24 hours everytime with them :(

You might also need to run:
ipconfig /flushdns (run as administrator if using UAC)
