I’m hosting a website from home using a Draytek 2860n, I’m not use to Draytek routers and hoping someone reading this could help.

My web server is MS Server 2008, however my Server is all setup from hosting using another make router. All I need is some pointers on the Draytek side.

I need someone to point out the following.

1) How do I fix my webserver so it’s always on same internal IP address
2) How do I open port 80 to the server.
3) Anything else I need to do on for the Draytek but not aware?

Cheers in advance.

Assuming they haven't made any significant firmware changes...

  1. Either set it as a static IP in Windows (common practice for servers), or look under 'LAN->Bind IP to MAC' if you'd prefer a reservation.
  2. 'NAT->Port Redirection' or 'NAT->Open Ports'. They offer similar options and either should work.
  3. Check that the remote management options ('System Maintenance->Management') isn't already using any of the ports you want to use.

If your using port 443 on your website, you also need to change the port of the drayteks SSL VPN or it will get in the way.

Bremen1874 / tribz, many thanks for your help. Gone over the setting you mention and think I'll be ok now. Will let you know once everything is setup.

Why would you host a website yourself when web hosts are literally the same price as dirt?

Thats true if it's a small site but I'm running a web-application. My server is 16GB i7 4770, Windows Server 2008, Net 4, SQL Server 2008. Plus I have a 14 mbps upload that's fine at the moment.

To give idea of costs Rack Space would want over £600 month for a dedicated server setup like above.
