Hi guys, not sure if this is the right forum but if it isn't feel free to move it.

Looking for some cheap hosting where I can just get a domain name and stick some photo albums on it and leave it there for as long as I want. Fair amount of space required - will need gigabytes I think - but not too sure on bandwidth required as I only mates will need to be able to access it.

Any recommendations/prices? Cheers.

people should use the search :( and also the sticky at the top of this forum! Maybe an idea to change it to something like

"LOOKING FOR HOSTING? LOOK NO FURTHER"

sorry i didnt mean to seem angry towards you just there is many of these threads per week and as i view this forum regularly it gets a little samey

Given that this is a very specific type of request (one I myself made last year) and given that the almighty ochostreview does not contain the info this chap needs, a post is perfectly valid.

I too needed GBs rather than bandwidth or service.

I chose a Dreamhost account, I searched for a voucher code and got 2 years all in with 20GB (and growing) space for about £90 I think.

Just in case people start spouting off about "why do you need 20GB?" I'm already using 7GB and off on a 2 week holiday soon so even more snaps to go online soon.

Dreamhost also offer a 1-click installation for Gallery software which is very good out of the box for photo albums.

i understand if the requirement is very specific however this was not really.

I am not having a go for asking but it is better to search/view the stickies before asking questions. His actually question was

Any recommendations/prices? Cheers.

This is handled in the ochostreview which he would be able to view and see which ones are recommended and then have a link to those where he could see the packages available. I was just trying to offer some advice and also i got up on the wrong side of bed this morning

It contains reviews of hosting companies so that people can investigate the good ones then work out if they have a decent shortlist or not, so it is a good resource - it's impossible to have a site which directs people automatically, because everyone has different needs :)

Tell me about it - I made very good use of the hotel's broadband the last week or two :D

Possibly the oc host review could have ratings on certain criteria, ie scores out of 10 for storage, availability, support, reliability, services etc.

Their overall score is an amalgamation of those scores while still allowing them to be searched on certain criteria such as storage in this case. This could also make some people justify the scores given as at present some results are a little misleading.

That's actually a fantastic idea. I'll see about implementing it shortly :). I agree there are far too many 10/10 reviews posted.

that is a good idea and would be good to see it implemented in the host review.
