Hello, been asked by a friend who has a small charity web site of some description about web hosting, he was paying £13 a month, which seems high, i said i would ask on here for some recommendations, so any welcome

Thanks Jim

For me, the biggest and most defining difference was speed. On Dreamhost, my downloads were capped at like 200KB/s and uploading via FTP was capped at like 50KB/s. With Vidahost, I download and upload as fast as my connection will allow. I thought it was just my slow connection back in Canada but even after I moved here and had a much faster connection, the transfer speeds were the same.
Also, the site I had is now long gone but it was noticeably quicker on Vidahost.

Stability was another. Pretty sure they both have 99.9% uptime but I noticed my Dreamhost account down far more than Vidahost (couple times a month with dreamhost, so far, never with vidahost). I use it quite frequently throughout the day.

The reasons behind my experiences could be as simple as being on a crap server with Dreamhost but I would certainly not go back.... though I do miss the quirky newsletters they would send out.

you didn't even quote them properly

just looks to me that it was a typo and should have said out instead of our

Hello,

I meant to check our service provider webhostuk LTD they host my few sites..if you require,I can PM you my sites with them let me know if you need it. I will PM the domains I host,I got a reseller plan with them.

Missed the word "provider" just had been working for whole night ..got a bit drowsy it seems.

fair enough. hope you can understand the cynicism

If it's small like you say, how about either £1/year or £5/year depending on the amount of space/bandwidth needed?

24 hour support query turnaround - what a joke tbh. What happens if I had an urgent issue, is waiting 24 hours really any good to me? Nope :(

There lies the difference between good and bad hosts in my eyes.

Yes they are all priced pretty similar, have similar features and the majority of them are fast. The real difference comes the support - both quality and speed.

It reassuring to know if I had any issues with a website hosted at tsohost (who i use) I could either email (getting a response in < 10 mins) or call them up and get answered within a few seconds.

I hate that I always do it on this forum, but I honestly can't praise tsohost enough for their support, its absolutely spot on.
