Web hosting?

Hi guys im currently looking at starting my own web site. I have looked around but there are that many places saying there the best etc im really unsure.
Right what i need to start off is something cheap. IE £30 year
What i need is a home page,
Some sort of forums (smf i believe but not sure)
Free or very cheap domain name.
I think thats about it. Its going to be a small website that will have an intro on the home page then links either down the side or across the top which will hopefully link to about me, contact details and forums.
Hope that all makes sense, oh also something that is straight forwrd and easy to set up.

Had a look at TSO and it lists either Windows or Linux. WHat does this mean?

The operating system the server uses. It doesn't matter at a basic level, but use Linux as cPanel is a more common/standardised management portal.

The forum aint that much of a problem, i have been messing with that feature. Its the main page/website i cant do lol.

right...then you need to look into html, css etc.
dummies book might be a good idea... (without sounding patronising, they actually run through quite nicely if you have no clue)

Yeah i was thinking one of those books would be ideal for me, Was just hoping there would be an easy website builder guide i could upload or something.
