Hi Guys,

We have a web developer currently creating a website for us. We bought some hosting from Fasthosts (not my choice!) It would seem the host is a shared server. Due to this the developer says the share servers do not support the use of .htaccess files which would cause issues with SEO url's and stuff.


I'm looking into tsohosts as I've heard they are brilliant and they have indeed just responded to a ticket i raised within 5 minutes which is an amazing start.

What would you guys recommend? Needs to support "ExpressionEngine".

I created a website for my Mum and hosted it on Vidahost. Had a few problems at around 11pm a few days ago and still got a near immediate response.
Only £32 IIRC for 2 years with a free domain so cant complain there.

Highly recommended :)
 
Shared hosting should have no effect on being able to use .htaccess In fact any shared host worth there salt will be able to accomodate htaccess settings.

For expression engine any host that provides mysql databases and php5 will do.
 
I've been with TSOHost for a few years now and rate them highly. They host mine, and many other clients' websites. I can count the issues I've had with all of my accounts on one hand (2 issues in 3 years). They do support .htaccess as well - I use it when changing the navigational structure of my clients' sites.
