Web hosting?

I'm a novice at this sort of thing but £140!? thats kinda expensive!

Not much help - but i can't scroll on your site and some pictures get the top cut off. Using IE8

Two of the most popular in the UK seem to be TSOhost and Vidahost. All the user reviews etc.. seems they are pretty equal.

I'm not sure what databases I need for my site, at the moment I've got a wordpress but is it going to be easy to copy my stuff of the hosting and migrate it across?

When you say about to expire, are you talking about the registration. Who was this with?

It should be easy to transfer it to another registrar such as godaddy or namecheap for the price of a .co.uk tranfer ($4.99 for a year with namecheap)

https://www.namecheap.com/domains/transfer-a-domain.aspx

Then you can choose hosting with any provider for an annual or monthly fee, approx £3 per month is normal. I have just moved to an unlimited account with 123easyhosting.co.uk on which I can host as many domains as I wish for £3.99pm

I would speak to your developer. It looks like you are on an expensive package with stylistic and possibly a pro version. Their pricing starts at £29.99 per annum. Maybe you could just revise the hosting package and negotiate a cheaper deal with them. Depends how much space and bandwidth you use on the servers.

Otherwise with his input, you could transfer to any hosting provider and keep all your databases etc. This should be a simple quick task. It requires backing up your website, pointing the domain to new nameservers, recreating your databases and transferring the files.

Problem is, my developer has done a runner. Was a freelancer, didn't get as many jobs as need and had to find a way to sustain himself and got a full time job and forgot about me. Basically bs his way to me. I'll have a chat with stylistic hosting and ask not to pay as much.

In the mean time, what else will I need to back up? Done a backup of my website, taken my word press backup. Don't know how to back up or transfer databases if it comes to the time.:(

£140?

Have a look at Vidahost, I think I paid something like £29 for the first 3 years on their starter package, but even their advanced one is cheaper than that.

If you get in touch with their support, they'll tell you all you need to know about transfer, and I believe if you're willing to give them details of your old host they'll move everything and set it up for you.

+1 on TSOHost.
Moved all my hosting there from fasthosts.

Their support is amazing, and I think I paid around £49 for the pro hosting. There are cheaper packages too.

Are you on the Premium Plus package, which is £150? http://www.icukhosting.co.uk/web-hosting/ If so, that's terrible value. It only has 1GB and 12.5GB monthly data transfer.

I recommend QiQ. I was with them for two years, until last month, and I had no problems with them. The QiQ Premium package is £24.99 a year. The package doesn't support subdomains though.

you can either export the whole database or export your posts as an xml file and then re-import. Remember you need to back up or transfer your media files too else a lot of stuff disappears

I was with Tsohost for about a year and was very satisfied with their service. I just had to move up to a VPS and that was the only reason I left them.

I've used TSOHost and Vidahost, and prefer Vidahost. But TBH you can't go wrong with either. they're both great.
