Hi all... I need to implement a web/internet monitoring and blocking service for work. Previously i had used websense express to do this. Is there any better software or hardware to do this, looks like websense express is not available anymore?
Looking for something not too expense.. it is going to be used for about 50 employees/50 seperate machines.
Thanks in advance

Yeap have a static ip... are you talking about umbrella by opendns? Is it better than Websense Web Security Express?
Thanks.

A Linux box, samba with windbind and squid. I used to use the sarg reporting tool on it too, if it still exists. I'd go Debian, personally. It's not difficult either, but the squid.conf file is big!

there is quite a few options.. what would be the easiest option in your opinion

we use a barracuder 310 web filter we have 60 users in uk office,
pf sense / squid for 10 users at our whare house
and barracuder 310 for 100 users in usa and same for canada

is it hard to install and setup.. i have never used linux? Being linux based are all/most of the software free?

Not hard at all, if you use Debian you can apt-get install the packages you need. Yep, it's all free. The Debian install is pretty easy too.

Open DNS would be the easy one as long as you have access to;

A) The main router that is connecting to the Internet
B) DHCP server so you can modify the DNS settings.

yes to both....are you referring to Umbrella by open DNS?

thanks i will look into it. Got some old machines with amd duron 1.8 ghz cpu in them.. would they be sufficient?

can anyone tell the difference between opendns umberellla and the cloudbased websense version... what are pros and cons of each?

Also what are the pros and cons of using a cloud based option as opposed to a hardware one like Barracuda Webfilter please?
