Web proxy to block adverts?

Hi all,

I was and still am a huge fan of Firefox with adblocker plus and Noscript. However the endless load times has worn me down. Currently using SRIron's modified Chrome browser, it loads in an instant and if one tab crashes they don't all crash...

The only problem is damn adverts. I've tried "Privoxy" its fairly decent but browsing is noticeably slower than with out a proxy. Is there any better alternatives?

Thanks in adv

Unless you want to pay for a full speed proxy then you are out of luck. All public proxies are shared by tens or hundreds of users so you will never get a decent speed. There is also the privacy issue of using a proxy.

It is annoying, I agree. My way round it is just to restart Firefox as infrequently as possible. I start Firefox when I start the machine, and just leave it open until I shut down. You can cope with a few seconds a day of waiting :D

(edit) To answer the actual question: AdMuncher seems to be quite highly regarded and blocks ads in all browsers.

Anyone can block several of the major adservers with OpenDNS Block Individual Domains:
Dashboard > Settings > Filtering(Block Individual Domains) > enter these servers (as many/few you want) and you will block a lot of ads/tracking:

doubleclick.net
2o7.net <--- note letter 'o' NOT zero
2mdn.com
advertising.com
atwola.com
kontera.com
revsci.net
tacoda.net
adsonar.com
tribalfusion.com
intellitxt.com
hitbox.com
adbrite.com
chitika.net
mediaplex.com
fastclick.net
clickz.com
coremetrics.com
adbureau.net
zedo.com
google-analytics.com
googlesyndication.com

Optionally, you can block entire countries (no dot, just the two letters):
cn <---- this blocks all sites from China
ru <---- this blocks all sites from Russia

+1, AdMuncher is one of the two pieces of software that keeps me under Windows.
