Web search links redirecting

My search results in IE are being redirected to other sites & not the ones associated with the search result. I've tried searching for sites that I know the addresses for as a control (for example 'Propellerhead' software located at www.propellerhead.se) but when I click on these I'm redirected to an advertising site! I've tried loads of stuff to get rid of this (Ad Aware, Sypot S&D, Spyware blaster, Hijack this, CCleaner etc..) but to no avail.

I've posted ellswhere with this problem but so far I've drawn a blank also. Thought I'd try here as you guys on here are much smarter than the ones over on PC Format's forum

BTW, this doesn't happen in Firefox, only IE. But I'm not that big on Firefox. For me it runs very, very slow compared to IE & streaming video (such as that found on movie web pages & you tube) always causes it to crash which is a right pain in the arse!

Thanks for that. I like the idea of an online scanner that you don't have to download, install, update & run. You just run that scan from the web page. Neat idea. I found a few problems as well. Unfortunately though it didn't remove my problem. A real bugger this one. It seems to be evading everything I throw at it. I'm wondering if anyone else is having similar problems. I did a web search (in Firefox) & found one other person. They seem to be drawing a blank as well though!

DOwnload the MVPS hosts file (http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.zip) and then install it using the bat file provided.

Then download a copy of HiJackThis (www.merijn.org) and post a log file here to see what you have been infected by.

It removed all problems it found. But my problem still remained.

Okay I've done that. Here's my hijack this log. I can see something called 'dmrxi.exe'. That's not good then is it?

By the way what does the MVPS hosts file thing do?

Hello again, your right that the file looks dodgy, there is no info on any startup db's regarding it so chances are it is some sort of virus.

Restart into safe mode, run HJT again and put a check next to:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmrxi.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmrxi.exe

Now find and delete the C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmrxi.exe file.

Restart back in to normal mode and create a new HJT log and paste it here.

I did that. Then I clicked 'fix checked'. Was that right? I searched for the file after that but I couldn't find it.

I restarted & run Hijack this again. Now I have something called 'dmnfd.exe' in my System32 folder.

Yeah unfortunately that is the same virus with a different file name now.

Hmmm finding out what this little bugger is can be a nightmare, however lets try this:

Download and run VundoFix: http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK.
When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES.
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
Turn your computer back on.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HijackThis log.
