I've just signed up for a domain because I needed a proper email address so using it for email forwarding. It's now got me thinking though. Can I set up some simple web server to run on my laptop, then point the domain at that? Just something simple to have a CV on etc? Need somewhere to stick my forum sig etc :)

You do realise that whenever you turn off your laptop those files will show up as unavailable yeah? Better off getting some cheap web hosting.

Really? Never thought of that ;)

Yeah I know mate, just wanting a play really, new toys and all :D

i host my own sig at home. but you'd be mad to do it on a laptop.

however if you do fancy messing around with your own server, i recommend abyss. it's a doddle to setup because you configure it through a web browser unlike pesky apache and it's text files. also it uses hardly any ram. couple of mb at the most.

You want Apache webserver mate, it's the best webserver in the world and something like 60% of all websites use it.

Download the windows binary and it's really simple to install, if you have any questions I'd be happy to help.
