hi all, a simple question, just need your advice please

ive built my own website www.bluewatchskegness.co.uk

but i have had a friend and a family member ask me if i could them one too.

my first question is, once you do a site for someone else who/or/ how do you go about updating them. i mean, i know i could, but i dont want to have to update theirs so how would they go about it

secondly, any servers with good offers on at the moment?? (i used hosting-unlimited and nominet.uk)

depends really. If my clients want to manage their own content then I tend to create a custom CMS (content management system) for them specifcally desinged for their needs.

However, it sounds like the sites your doing aren't too complicatied so to be honest you may well end up "updating" them for your friends/family. You might be able to charge them a nominal fee for doing it so it's not all bad news.

Think of it this way, they would be paying for your time and expertice.

again all depends on what your doing, how much time you can spend on this, and also how much your "clients" are willing to pay (!)

For hosting, I've used supanames, fasthosts, oh and studentwebhosing too. All have been ok so far. I've also used 1and1 but had some issues with them over payment returns and so have avoided them every since.

For domain name registrations I've setup an account and 123-reg.co.uk which is free. You can then purchase domain names and administer them all from one place. it's very easy to use.

hope this helps

sounds to me like you are after a hosting resellers account

if you are then i suggest www.vidahost.com

awesome hosts! very reasonable price, good space and bw, and help and support second to none... DOOOO IT :p

Even more off topic, I've seen those buttons and some of the other graphics on another site somewhere.

how do i make it compatible with firefox?

Your layout is interpreted slightly differently between browsers. What looks ok in IE may not look ok in Firefox or Oprea or IE for Mac for example.

It's all down to the way that each browser handles your CSS. If you get stuck just ask as there are plenty of people here who know CSS a lot better than I.
