Webcam for Facetracknoir

Hi,

I play a lot of Arma 2 and I heard about this software called facetracknoir which is like track ir but uses a webcam instead of expensive tracking equipment.

Now I have tried this software with my basic no frills pcline webcam and...it works, sort of. Its sluggish in tracking my movement and its like playing through the eyes of a drunk person. Not good.

So I am now looking at getting a better webcam, the thought process being better webcam = less sluggish tracking = arma 2 will be better to play.

Now I don't have a budget but I thought £50 would be a reasonable amount to spend to get something good enough for this purpose.

Which webcam should I buy, perhaps if you have experience of using it with facetracknoir and it works well then could you share this information with me.

If £50 is too little to get something that will be up to the job, then spec me the most affordable webcam that will be suitable.

Based on the limited knowledge of face tracking software, I'm going to hazard a guess that the algorithm will be the bottleneck here (especially if you are running a game on top of that).

What is the frame-rate of your camera?

According to a product listing I've found its supposed to have a frame rate of 30fps.

But facetrack says its only doing 5 fps, so I could save myself some money if I can get this thing working at 30 fps.

But, I can't find the driver. Its a PCLINE PCL-13MP. The only bit of info I could find on it is on the big river website which clearly states frame rate of 30fps.

Can anyone find me the driver for this thing? I would be eternally grateful. Cheers.

Have you set it to the correct resolution (640*480)?

A PS3 Eye is ideal for FTN, 50fps at 640x480, works really well with CloD and rFactor. I got one for just £3 from Game before they went **** up, if you're going to spend £50 on a webcam for FTN I'd just go all out and but TrackIR instead.

Yeah, it looks like I can get something ideal for much less than fifty quid.

I'll just see what the purple shirts have got.
