Hey all,
I'm considering buying a webcam for use on Skype calls, but also for recording high-quality video (audio not necessary, I'll use a separate mic for that). I've been toying with the idea of making some popular science videos for YouTube or similar - short 10 min shows where I point out some neat physics thing that occurs in everyday life that we never seem to notice, then develop the physics behind it. I might do some more advanced videos too for the hardened popular science viewer, or outreach videos for my own work. I also wouldn't mind making some videos to go along with the music I make (just me playing the various instruments, not a full-on 'music video'), again just using the video from the camera and the audio from separate sources.
Basically, I want a webcam that's suitable for recording good quality (720p preferred, 1080p is prohibitively expensive) video for these kinds of purpose. I'm looking at a standalone HD video camera for later, but for now I'll stick with the webcam, since it always takes me weeks to follow up on ideas like this and I need a webcam anyway. I'm currently thinking of the Logitech C270 HD - any opinions on this?
The only thing I'm really wary about is that I know some cheaper devices record HD video at odd frame rates that sometimes make it look a bit jumpy. If anyone can confirm the Logitech doesn't do this, then I'll probably get it. The only other one grabbing me is the 'Creative Live! Cam Chat HD' for similar money. If anyone can offer alternative suggestions for ~£20, then please do.
Thanks,
Steven
