Hi All,

Registered the other day to ask about this so this is my first post!

I do webcam calls with my girlfriend on a regular basis as we live a little way apart.

However lately, within the last week or so, her webcam has broken and we can't figure out what's wrong with it. The sound is fine but ont he little box in the middle of the screen I can just see my own webcam but can still hear her. And it's not both ways either because she see me.

We've both tried various things, i.e uninstalling/reinstalling etc but nothing seems to be doing the trick.

Does anyone have any idea of what the problem/solution may be?

You could check the drivers by using device manager? Start > Search "device manager", if it's windows XP > Start > Run > type "devmgmt.msc", Imaging devices - is there a red X or yellow exclamation point near the webcam?

What application are you using, Skype? You could check that the webcam is being identified and used by the application usually in the options menu. Could be a problem with the webcam itself of course but start with the basics. Could you remote into the laptop and check the settings?

And welcome to the forums :)

well there's no red x or yellow exclamation mark. It says "This device is working properly." In skype, the cam set is "USB Video Device" which I think is the cam, although why does it say USB when it's a built in cam? It says USB video Device in Device Manager too.

But its not picking the cam up in Skype either. The screen is just black, even though the cam light is on.

- Pasted :D
