Website background question

i would like to create a website with a large background image but i dont want the use to have to resize the browser to fit the background image in, is there anyway i could do that through html or css?

A single img element placed with style position:absolute;width:100%;height:100%;z-index:0;

Not sure about the z-index bit, you can force this anyway by making it the first element in body.
