Can anyone point me in the direction of some free website building software? I am thinking of building my own website but have never done that before. I may use my ISP's free webspace or buy a domain name and get some webspace that way. Not sure who to turn to for that though so any advice would be great.

It won't be a site that sells things just an information site i am thinking of putting together. Thanks

I don't know any, but could try doing it yourself from scratch. All you need is a guide and a text editor (notepad++)

If it just for info and nothing fancy you can knock up something decent in a short time and it will give you a leg up should you ever have to tweak anything automated web software throws at you.

edit - using this guide got me started a few years ago.

Don't want to learn html. Just want some software that does all that for me. Whats the point in learning html when programs are out there that do all that for you; Frontpage for one.

Because, most people want to have full control over their sites they're building. Such free programs won't allow that. I would rather build a program in notpad 2 then use a program, such as dreamweaver.

Anyway, up to you. There are lots of free web building tools on the internet.

www.google.com is a good place to start. You'd be amazed at what a little bit of searching does....;)

have a look into www.joomla.org, more specifically; http://www.joomla.org/about-joomla.html
Its open source, highly customiseable and IMO, is awesomly powerful.

It'll do all the code for you, all you need is an FTP client ( Filezilla for example), some webspace, and basic knowledge of PhpMyAdmin (nothing complicated).

There's a steep learning curve, but when you know what you are doing, it is all second nature.

:)

Serif Webplus is another option - you can download Webplus SE for free. The free version is limited in terms of functionality and the number of pages it will support but I found it to be a very good introduction for someone (like me) who had no experiece whatsoever.

I've now upgraded to Webplus X2 which is better again (apart from the endless marketing calls from Serif!)

Hope this helps
