Website Design and Features Advice

Well last time I checked, practically no browsers fully adhere to all web standards in existence

Certainly the vast majority of mainstream browsers don't, at least.

I'd consider looking at a php application called modx It's a pain in the butt to get going at first but makes managing a website an absolute doddle afterwards.

Very powerful software.

If you're under the impression that purely by using xhtml "the website will render identically across all browsers and operating systems" then you've clearly never done much web design :)
Yes I know that thanks. I was simply trying to explain to Baddass why he might want to consider meeting XHTML web standards.

now now guys, no need for ppl to get into arguments over me :p I appreciate the input regarding XHTML so will bare that in mind :)

cheers

Hi guys,

Just looking for some feedback, ideas and thoughts really about my website which I'm looking to expand and improve. http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/

CMS - At the moment the site is just written in HTML. Some people have recommended content management systems, but i'm not sure if these would help me? Would they be of benefit? I can add the following easily via my hosting, so are any of these any good? ( Drupal, Geeklog, Joomla, Mambo Open Source, PHP-Nuke, phpWCMS, phpWebSite, Post-Nuke, Siteframe, TYPO3, Xoops)

Advertising - I've been playing with google adds recently. I don't want to cover the site with ads, but any tips on positioning and optimising these would be appreciated. How much $ do people tend to make from theirs?

Search engines - any tips on how to optimise for search engines?

Improving hits and visits - any advice on how to do so?

Feedback and advise appreciated :) thanks

Hi Baddass

I am no expert with websites but have made a few.

Your site looks good and I quite often make sites using table based layouts.

I used iFrames for a while and found them iritation and find that many sites look better with the information flowing freely down the page until it stops.

I personally don't like CMS systems, coding is the way to go ;)

But your site is awesome and does the job wonderfully.

Whatever you decide to do with it I am sure will be good.

Red and White you have given some brilliant advice, and some handy links, top man!

thanks for feedback :)

i've updated each page with meta tags and changed the page titles to be more suitable...that's a start at least.

as well as keyword meta tags stick a meta description on your homepage, this is what is usually dipslayed in your search engine description.

stick it above your keywords like this:)

<meta name="description" content="Here at TFT central we aim to give you the latest TFT knowledge, prices, blah blah etc..." />

<meta name="keywords" content="tft, computers, screens, etc" />
